I may be weird. . . I like the original and expanded Head On. I'd have preferred it remastered by someone else but I'm not begging and choosing.

Not at all. I am not saying I am right and I usually agree with your take ... just not this time. Maybe it's just a matter of differing tastes.

Oh totally, I feel that way, differing tastes, I encounter that all the time.

I have had the original Head On a long time, which may be a reason, it may seem a bit dated now, it didn't when I first started hearing it. And it's nice to have it without certain lp effects!

In 1998 alone there were three Connoisseur batches and two West Coast Classics batches. And the Rare Groove series was still alive. Those were the days.

That 1998 batch might have been the first straw in the breaking camel's back, the West Coast classics releases and the 10inch LP reissue Conns all tanked in the sales department (if memory serves). They vanished from the stores in a blink of an eye.

Wasn't 1998-99 around the time that the Verve Elite series came out too?

A mythical time of riches !

The VEEs started earlier, 1996 I think. They came faster and 1998 might as well have been the best year there. The final few came in 2000 already.
