A Lark Ascending
Every now and then I'm just stopped in my tracks by a tune from a familiar recording that has never really stood out before. Driving to work last week I had Art Blakey and the JM's 'At the Cafe Bohemia Vol II' playing and became totally absorbed by 'I Waited for You.' A lovely tune that I know in other forms (including Gillespie's) but this interpretation strikes me as absolutely gorgeous. A wonderfully stately presentation and rumination on the melody by Kenny Dorham followed by beautifully melodic solos from Mobley and Silver. I've had to play it several times on its own since! If it's never really struck you before dig out the album and give it a listen!

David Williams
Beautiful tune, gorgeous albums, both v1 & v2. These and Dorham's Bohemia dates have had a lot of play here.
Chuck Nessa
Just a note to say in the early days ('66-'68) Lester Bowie repeatedly mentioned KD, on the Bohemia dates, as a MF. He made me relisten to this sides. The recent domestic RVGs are masterful.

"Minor's Holiday" is a STUPENDOUS performance by everyone concerned! Guy
EKE BBB
for the song... and for the complete Bohemia set!
brownie
It's always being GO! from the first notes of the opening track ('Soft Winds') of The Jazz Messengers at Cafe Bohemia albums. One of the swingingest and creative evening in jazz history!
Clunky
Any one know the provinance of the KD Time CDs being offered by Fresh Sounds in Spain, they look interesting but I have worries regarding their legitimacy and sound. Anyone tried these yet. The Booker Little and Roach titles are also tempting too. http://www.freshsoundrecords.com/newreleases.php
John Tapscott
The Jazz Messengers at Cafe Bohemia Vol 1 &2 never, ever fails to lift my spirits. This music is like a tonic for the soul (and Dorham at Cafe Bohemia, too). The RVG's of this music are wonderful.
jazzbo
C, those are excellent sessions, and will probably sound very nice; not sure about their legitimate nature. . .they probably are pirated editions really.
Lazaro Vega
Featuring Blakey tonight on my radio program: consider this the first request for the night...which no one will hear as they'll be watching the CUBS WIN!!!
