Stamps with the image of jazz musicians

Recommended Posts

Didn't that Monk record actually come with faux 3¢ stamps at the time of its original release? If so, that would be something to have one of those ...

Yes, sheets of these stamps were printed as a promotion, complete with a glue backing...

There was at least one instance of someone using it successfully.

The French Post Offices issued last year a series of six stamps on jazz greats (Louis Armstrong, Sidney Bechet, Duke Ellington, Ella Fitzgerald, Stephane Grapelli and Michel Petrucciani) by Raymond Moretti, an artist I don't like much.

Couldn't find images of them.

BTW: why´s the Duke the CHEAPEST?<_<^_^;):):D

... to give him wider circulation?

The Duke Ellington stamp came out years earlier than the other stamps, when the U.S. first class postage rate was less. Duke's stamp was not issued as part of a group. He received his own individual stamp, earlier than the others. So actually Duke was the most honored by the post office.

They've been out since July but I just noticed them today - Vinatage Black Cinema stamps. Note the Ellington Black And Tan on the left.

I went looking for a postage stamp the other day and discovered that my wife had bought a couple of sheets of these. I'd didn't know about it before and immediately posted to the Duke-Lym group under the subject line "Forty-two Cent Stomp". (And I don't usually like puns.)
