Teasing the Korean
I sometimes lurk on other jazz message boards, but post only on this one. I've noticed something interesting: In terms of participants, this board has some EXTREMELY knowledgeable members, who are jazz musicians, writers, critics, producers, etc. - more than the other boards I've lurked on. HOWEVER... Despite the heavier jazz credentials of members on this site (relative to others), this board is the LEAST JUDGMENTAL and MOST OPEN to other genres of music. Also, it seems to be the most tolerant of music on the cusp of jazz. It tends to reinforce my theory that the people who are the most knowledgeable about jazz tend to be less interested in erecting boundaries and more interested in enjoying good music. HERE'S TO ALL OF YOU AND HAPPY FRIDAY!

AllenLowe
actually I don't think that and I heartily agree - this is about the only place on the net that I go to the trouble to keep up with any more -
papsrus
This is something that's been very apparent to me for a while as well. Organissimo is hands-down the most interesting and free-flowing board that I've stumbling into. ... What a concept!

JSngry
Music is music just like people is people. And that works any way you wanna make it work, or not work. So ultimately, the truth does make you free, only when you're free. you realize that you don't really know too much of anything, so humility in the face of the unknown becomes not just a good behavioral display, but a necessary metaphysical survival skill. Besides, I personally find it a helluva lot more fun to be delighted than to be disgusted. When there's a choice, that is.
jazzbo
Yes, this is a nice home for music lovers. . . although sometimes it's also a venomous snakepit. I guess that's because it's a very human place. Oddly enough, thanks to the members of this board I'm LESS intensely interested in jazz than I was before I came here. And more interested in other genres such as brazilian, classical and funk than I was before I got here. And lately I've been listening to lots and lots of Sade. What a wave of love that woman's music can be!
Shawn
I have quite a few friends on this board...and many more that I'd like to get to know better. There's not too many places on the internet...or real life in general that you can say that for.

What a wave of love that woman's music can be! Lon, Agree 100% about Sade. Do yourself a favor and pick up the DVD called "Sade Live". Wow! Also, I would highly recommend that you check out Ana Carolina. She sings in Portuguese but boy can she sing and boy can she play the guitar. Check her out on YouTube. The cut with Jorge Seu called "E Isso Ai" is prime. Up over and out.

Classical and now blues has been opened up in a big way for me. And the Bessie Smith on the (now playing) Venuti & Lang box has reminded me I need more of that woman. You'd think a certain poster's presence here would have knocked that idea in my head sooner.
Soul Stream
Not many places I can ask a musician to musician question to a guy in NYC who's just played the Vanguard as a headliner. Not to slight all the other great musicians/contributors... hey, lots of information here from people who are the real deal. Thanks to all... Dave, I've been listening and watching that DVD since it came out, that on the equally wonderful "Lovers Live." My new lover and partner responds to Sade as she does to no other music. So Sade is played and played.

AllenLowe
I had the pleasure of meeting two Organissimo-ites in person this last weekend - it was definitely better than a sharp stick in the eye - depends, of course, on how sharp the stick is - but I thankLarry Kart, who mentioned this place a few years ago to me - and who has probably been cursing himself out ever since -

tkeith
are you making fun of us? I dunno, Allen... are you Korean? Lon, Agree 100% about Sade. A friend of mine who *loves* Sade had tickets, front and center, about $360 for the pair. He was here in New England working, but was going to fly back to the Bay area just for the show. The show was the week of September 10, 2001. Needless to say, he missed the show and ate the tickets. I realize that's minor in the grand scheme, but you have to feel for the guy, ya know? Did you mean a 80 minutes cd? Whew! I spent years to convince my partner that 7 inches records are the best for sex. Really? I spent years trying to convince her that 4-1/2 inches was 7!
