Forget Stupendous, Now Everything is Priced to Move!

Recommended Posts

OK, its time to take one more whack at the prices. Will this be it? In all likelihood, yes.

  • Every remaining CD is listed below
  • Discounts have been applied to Mini-LP, Small Boxes and digi-packs. Take an additional $1 off all discs listed in the A to Compilations section
  • Same deal as before for shipping - $2.50 is the base charge for padded mailers, if you buy 1-4 or so, expect to pay an additional $2-3. Otherwise, exact shipping charges will be quoted. Foreign shipping will be as quoted.
  • Because of the discounts applied to the price of the CDs, Paypal users will be charged a fee of 3%. Paypal is still encouraged, but I'd like to minimize my losses, and really the fee isn't much to pass on but it adds up with the volume of sales.
  • Jewel boxes are available in extremely limited quantities at an additional cost of $1 each.
  • Please do not submit offers, this discount program is the approach I am taking to clear out the balance of my CDs.

And before we get on to the list, a message for all package recipients of the past week and the coming few days: There is a missing set of Horace Silver inserts which I believe got stuck together and shipped to the wrong buyer. Please check your packages carefully and send me a PM if you find it. Thanks!

Up for more sales, and a few riddles, like,

Check out the page views for the various threads:

A-B: 1911

C-F: 2169

G-L: 1241

M-Q: 985

R-Comps: 603

Potpourri: 299

Extra Stupendous Sale: 444

I can't get over how page views peaked early on and then steadily declined - is this a function of the time of year, with more people on vacation? Did people lose interest once they got a peak at what was being offered? It really surprises me to realize that without a particular person in NYC, this sale would have been a resounding failure.

Then there's this riddle:

Why the heck is there no interest in two early 90s BN reissues that to my knowledge have never been out domestically since:

Kenny Drew, Talkin & Walkin'

Paul Chambers, Chamber's Music, which happens to feature Coltrane

Is there no demand because CDRs went far and wide in the past? Are the blogs and b-t sites all over these discs?

I can understand if people aren't so keen on TOCJs of Smithville or Sunday Mornin' - they've been out as domestic RVGs and aren't nearly as rare as they used to be. But I really figured these would go when first listed, and yet there they are, still.

I would guess people generally have a certain number of discs they feel comfortable purchasing each month (notice I didn't say $ amount) and once they've got their allotted number, they need time to digest what they've purchased before acquiring more discs. .... maybe .... maybe not .... But I'm sure there must be a marketing term for this phenomenon, if it exists.

In any case I'm chewin' on a list. I do like the "buy 10, knock $2 off each (except for double-disc sets)" deal. I'll be PM-ing you shortly.

That makes some sense in terms of volume of sales, but does it keep you from checking the new lists? With the promise of an entire collection being placed for sale, I'd think that curiosity alone would keep the level of page views up.

Good deal! I'll keep refreshing my browser in anticipation.

Not yet.

Nope.

One possible factor on these is that they were not Blue Note recordings. The Drew was a Pacific Jazz session and the Chambers were Transition recordings. So they are not canonical for Blue Note collectors. They are available very inexpensively on Amazon. Also, I believe that at least the Chambers was reprinted around the turn of the millenium in that "Collector's Choice" series of reissues or whatever it was called where they reprinted some of the early CD titles which had fallen out of print.

Well I never did check Amazon to see if titles are listed and at what prices. That's a pretty good reason. Guess I can plan on keeping those. :g

Long time ebay sellers, from whom I have regularly purchased jazz CDs for years, have told me that their business is slow this year. It could be that the economy is having an impact.
