I got a chance to play the record and it really sounds clean. Unfortunately, I was hoping that the music was a little bit more out there, but Lacy sounded pretty constrained.

Yeah, Lacy's shit didn't start getting out of hand - at least on record - until the Candid LP.

Still, Soprano Sax is scarce in a clean original form.

A bunch of sealed records on India Navigation today.

Chico Freeman - Chico

Dennis Moorman - Circles of Destiny

Jay Hoggard - Riverside Dance

J.H. - Mystic Winds, Tropic Breezes

$8 a piece. Pretty good, I thought, considering what these usually fetch on Ebay for used copies.

I went(finally) to a local used vinyl shop that opened up about two years ago. I only made it through the "B's" before my wife called me home but I still found some good deals. For $5 bucks a piece I got the following in opened but probably played once condition:

Hamiett Bluiett - Resolution (Black Saint)

Muhal Richard Abrams - Hearinga Suite (BS)

Muhal Richard Abrams - Blues Forever (BS)

Adams/Pullen/Brown/Richmond - Don't Lose Control (Soul Note)

Amina Claudine Myers - The Circle of Time (BS)

Went to its other location today during my lunch hour. This place has an even better selection. The hardest part for me was deciding what not to buy. I could have easily blown $400 or $500 in there. With a lot of restraint I made it out there w/ my wallet a little lighter and the following -

Jarman - Moye - Dyani - Black Paladins (Black Saint)

Chico Freeman - No Time Left (BS)

Chico - Kings of Mali (India Navigation)

Monnette Sudler - Time for a Change (Inner City)

Andrew Hill - Invitation (SteepleChase)

Ornette - Soap Suds (Artist House)

Lester Bowie - Phillip Wilson - Duet (Improvising Artists)

As I was leaving the guy behind the counter told me that they are getting 6000 records delivered between the two stores tomorrow.

Must... be... strong....

Last Saturday I went in to a little shop that sold used bits of this and that and they had a small pile of records.

I found a moldy covered but minty vinyl of an album by Gato Barbieri and Dollar Brand on the Arista label.

I think the album was called Confluence. I had a chance to listen to side one before retiring last night and really liked it. The vinyl's real quiet too. Maybe I'll find another copy some day with a good cover. This one has some serious water and mold damage.

Oh, and it cost a whole $1.00!

Duke Pearson, The Phantom (Blue Note, blue and white label, Van Gelder, Product of Liberty Records).

Where is this magical record shop you're visiting, man? If it's the big HPB, I need to make a trip there SOON!

Actually, I go to about 5 or 6 of those HPBs. I try to make the circuit with some regularity. It keeps me out of trouble.
