I've been wanting to hear this session for a long time now, but it was never reissued ... not even in Japan. Prestige did a twofer LP of all Zoot Sims sides for Prestige, but omitted that session! <_<

Thanks - especially for the EP cover - just found out myself while browsing through the Blue Moon catalogue.

From the obi, this appears to be an organ date!!! (Turn your head 90 degrees to the right.)

Joe Henderson Meets Kankawa Jazz Time II: Blue Bossa Live 1987 <<< Amazon link

I'm not aware of many organ dates with Joe, save for a couple. 'Brown Sugar' and 'Unity' -- and Charles Earland's "Leaving This Planet". Is that it??

If this wasn't so damn expensive, I'd be half tempted to pick it up. Anybody here ever heard it??

1. Softly As In A Morning Sunrise

2. Recorda-Me

3. Stella By Starlight

4. Blue Bossa

He and Big John Patton are on Grant Green's forgettable Am I Blue .

My favorite Henderson with organ dates are Unity , Leaving This Planet and Johnny Hammond Smith's Higher Ground on Kudu .

No - but Kankawa is a very interesting organist; I have a few of his CDs. He's also made an album with Gary Bartz, which I haven't got, as well as Soul Jazz albums with Jimmy Ponder and Hiram Bullock (not together; two different albums).

I'd be interested in getting that one. But it is a bit pricey from Amazon UK. Perhaps I'll see how much Hiroshi is asking.
