Chronological Classics

It appears Garner-1953 will come out in Sept ???

Thanks for the quick and positive echo ! I don't want to sound rude but please understand that at this time I cannot comment on what will be issued precisely when - although we have a fix schedule for the next months and a provisional plan for issues well into 2006. (Actually, I have already written liner-notes for about 30 Cds that are going to be issued.)

But here's the info on the forthcoming July-batch:

1380: Dizzy 1953

1381: Bill Coleman 1952-53

1382: Eddie Lockjaw Davis 1948-53

1383: Billy Taylor (p) 1952-53

1384: Bechet 1952

Jaffa Posted Today, 12:33 PM

(Kalo @ Jun 13 2005, 05:36 PM)

I'm very glad Classics will continue, "Chronogical" and all.

Kalo - I wonder what you'll say once you see the forthcoming issues...

Are you saying that the spelling is going to be corrected? But it's part of history now. ;)

Jaffa's confirmation echoed in Worlds Records' mailing today:

A bit of news from Classics Jazz label (this company also produces the Classics R&B label) - they are resuming production after a ten month hiatus. The next batch of five releases is expected in the next several weeks. It is unclear at this time when out-of-stock past catalog CDs from this label will be returning.

I hope this means repressings of oop titles.

Yes - eventually ! It may take some time to get oop titles back to stores again since issuing new CDs is considered a priority at this time !

Chuck, you could always p.m. a list of the titles you (and freinds you know of) miss most; this might help decided where to begin with.

A few titles to consider:

Lil Armstrong: 1936 - 40

Mary Lou Williams: 1944

Jimmie Noone (all five titles)

Mills Blue Rhythm Band (all five)

Andy Kirk (all except the first, '38, '43-49, which seem to be in print)

etc :)

ps - Pls keep the "Chonogical" name/title. It's already part of 'jazzlore'.

Finally ! Classics 1380 to 1384 are pressed, printed and packed: They will be available in France from next week (July 11) on and subsequently abroad - depending on how fast distributors and shops order.

Classics now resumes its monthly issue of 5 CDs ! (I am currently preparing notes for issues up to 1419)

Since the hiatus lasted way too long, here's a run-down of the 5 CDs that are ready for dispatch:

1380: Dizzy 1953

1381: Bille Coleman 1952/53

1382: Eddie Lockjaw Davis 1948-53

1383: Billy Taylor (p) 1952/53

1384: Bechet 1952

and - as a "teaser" - the August-batch will include Norvo, Basie, Moody...

I saw that there was an impending Rhythm and Blues Chronological Classics issue for Guitar Slim.

I was wondering--is this the same material that's on Sufferin' Mind? Or are the transfers superior? (Looking for a reason to buy this one.)

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detai...=samples#disc_1

Classics 5139 includes 6 tracks for Specialty from 10/27/53, 3 from 4/16/54 and 6 from 9/28/54 - but it opens with 4 tracks from May 51 (Imperial) and 2 from 1952 (J-B) that are NOT on the CD you mention.

Don't ask me about the transfer quality as I only know the Classics-issue which is as it is given the extreme rarity of some of the material...

Thanks, I'll be buying this one. I just purchased a Little Walter and a Howling Wolf in this series, both of which are great.

It was very nice to see the new batch on display at my favorite Paris record store

And the new ones are Chronological Classics!

Oscar Pettiford - 1951-54 (Chronological Jazz Classics 1409)

Is there a tracklist for this one?

I bought this one from Tower in February. It is really nice to have all of these sessions on one CD and I am looking forward to the next volumes, but I wish they would have put all of his sessions on here. They excluded the sessions that he led in the Forties because they were already on volumes by Duke Ellington and Dizzy Gillespie.
