Modern Longhair Egghead Electronic Works

Recommended Posts

I have been listening to Gil Melle's score for "The Andromeda Stain" non-stop. While this does not strictly fit the sub-genre I was addressing with this thread, it fits in nicely. A range of stuff from proto-ambient to things with melodic phrases and definite rhythmic pulses. Uses electronic instruments along with manipulated sounds of drums, bass, alto flute, piano, maybe more. I think this limited edition CD has already sold out.

Now listening to Morton Subotnick's "The Wild Bull" on Nonesuch.

This is pretty wild - lots of interesting shifts from minimal quiet passages to very loud and crowded mayhem.

Parts of it remind me of Jerry Goldsmith's soundtrack to "Logan's Run," the expanded version of which contains a greater sampling of electronic music from the Dome.

Just scored a few gems on LP, $2.99 a throw, all in pristine condition (as you'd expect), and all on the Nonesuch label:

The aforementioned "Earth's Magnetic Field" by Chares Dodge

"Music for Instruments & Electronic Sound" by Donald Erb

"Electro-Acoustic Music" by Iannis Xenakis

Listened to Dodge and half of Erb. Great stuff! Dodge got off to a slow start with a lengthy monophonic melodic passage, but then it kicked in. And anyone whose last name is Erb would have to compose electronic music!
