the type of album you're allowed to record when you're famous (boning was one of the biggest tv comedians when i was a kid in the early nineties)

album presentation in german tv (on tv total - reportedly the only show that still helps record sales)

this is what he's famous for (doesn't get better if you don't understand the lyrics; "take me now though i'm stinking" is the central line)

(the other guy went on to play drums for germany in eurovision 2006, also in a song without much intended comedy content

)

hope their leading happy lifes...

I know (or at least used to know) two or maybe three of the guys on this release (including the main ringleader), and I'm not the only one on this board who can say that. :ph34r:

The main ringleader is saxophonist Dwight Frizzell, a leading player on the Kansas City avant garde scene for decades now.

When I saw Sun Ra at Parody Hall in Kansas City in 1985, June Tyson and other members of the Arkestra came out and talked warmly to Dwight, walking down from the bandstand. So I always give him the benefit of the doubt.

Having said that, his albums, including this one, rank high on the barely listenable scale, to me.

The Skull Snaps album has some really cool music on it.

Yeah, I'm not so into the music of Frizzell and the Black Crack Revue but I respect him as an "artist." He also pals around with Daevid Allen of Gong - not surprisingly.

It's just a pickle, just a preserved cucumber, and yet, this cover is somehow disturbing. I think it has to do with the expressions on their faces--they are vaguely menacing. The woman on the left looks like someone you would not want to run into in a dark alley.

Members of a certain age may remember these late 1960s Kool Aid characters. They captivated the imagination of the kids in my neighborhood.

The original characters included Chinese Cherry. That character was dropped, after the early ads were criticized for being racist. There was an old time Charlie Chan type of stereotyping to Chinese Cherry.

Ah yes, I remember the Funny Faces well- a Kool-Aid knock-off (although sugar and artificial flavoring is not a particularly tough challenge to knock off).

And yes, I remember Chinese Cherry in all his ethnic stereotypical glory. As well as Goofy Grape and his dental issues.

I wonder what the hell that recording sounds like?

Never seen that cover before...Japanese CD, apparently...just checked my LP & apprently this was a Japanese-produced session. Never looked at that before! So this might be the original cover?

Here's a better representation:
