Jim Alfredson
I have the old CD of this (from the 80s I believe) and I know they made a new one in the 90s and now here's another one that has "bonus tracks" and stuff. What gives? Great record, though.
Use3D
Speaking of reissues I just found out a good album of mine Transmissions From Eville originally released in '95 was reissued in 98 under another label and has two extra tracks, remixes I guess... Hey it's not Soulville but I thought I'd share. PS- hey jim, teh forums ro><0R lolz
Jim Alfredson
Haha! Yeah, isn't this software cool!!! And it's free! CRAZY!
Saint Vitus
Bonus tracks? Are there more than the three "Webster on piano" tracks that were on the previous issue? I'm tellin' ya these record companies ... I'd likely pass on this one, though. The version I have sounds fine. (Besides, I'm on the Verve boycott after the Coltrane deluxe edition fiasco). Hey, B3-er, a nice shindig you set up here. Thanks.
Jim Alfredson
Hey I like your avatar! Horace Silver! Yeah! My copy of Soulville sounds fine too. Enough with the re-packaging I say.
Guest Mnytime
Not as many times as they reissue A Love Supreme or name any Ella CD.
mikeb
At least we're getting Ray Brown's "Jazz Cello"! I'm excited about it, anyway ...
Jazzmoose
So does anyone know what's new about this one? I gotta tell you, I have a real hard time buying "sonic upgrades" and "newly remastered" things at this point; jazz has been around waaaaaaaaaaaay too long, and there's just too much cool stuff to be discovered. And these darn musicians, they keep recording NEW stuff! My copy of Soulville is fine; unless there's new stuff (and not piano stuff as Saint Vitus alludes to), I'll pass... Saint Vitus
I saw a copy of VME Soulville today and it has the same 10 tracks that appeared on the previous edition. The store actually had 4 copies of the old version and 1 of the new, all priced at $17.98.
alankin
Wasn't this on a three-on-two release?
Saint Vitus
No, that was The Soul of Ben Webster, which had Harry Edison's Gee Baby Ain't I Good to You, Johnny Hodges' Blues-A-Plenty, and the title album. There are three alternate takes from the sessions, including two that Mosaic failed to include when they put out the Hodges small group set.
