I just got an email that Verge is having a sale. Some great titles contained within, altough I will not be ordering anything this time. All prices are in Canadian dollars, fwiw.

Dear Verge Customer,

Sorry to intrude again this month but we couldn't help but wonder if some of you might be interested in this eclectic batch of recordings at a significantly reduced price. These are not cut-outs, it's a former distributor's batch. We have these in stock and ready to ship but we can also accept backorders for one month. The sale price is available for one month but only while our source's supply lasts. As always with cut-outs the availability is limited. Sale Ends Feb 20th 2005.

Did some shopping a few hours ago, 10 Franks per disc (a bit less than 7 Euros, a bit more than 8 US$, approx.):

rat-related stuff, all Leos but the last one:

-Vladimir Tarasov/Vladimir Miller/Vitas Pilibavicius: "Frontiers" (Leo Lab 016)

-Glenn Hall OutSource Roswell Rudd: "The Roswell Incident" (Leo 313)

-Satoko Fuji Orchestra: "South Wind" (Leo Lab 037)

-Ganelin Trio: "Opuses" (Leo 171)

-Trio3 (Lake-Cyrille-Workman): "Open Ideas" (Palmetto)

non-rat-related:

-Art Farmer & Slide Hampton: "In Concert" (Enja Winkelmann)

-Bill Harris: "Live at Birdland 1952" (Baldwin Street Music)

-Curtis Fuller: "Up Jumped Spring" with Brad Goode (Delmark)

-Harold Ousley: "Grit-Gittin' Feelin'" (Delmark)

-V-Disc Parties: Goodman/Krupa (Nostalgia Arts)

-Buddy Collette: "Tasty Dish" (Freshsound)

-Buddy Collette: "Soft Touch" (Freshsound)

*************

Listening now to the Farmer/Hampton, nice extended live tunes, nothing absolutely great, though, but one I had my eyes on for some time, and at that prize I couldn't go wrong.

There were quite a lot of other Leo and Leo Lab discs. I'll have to browse their site a bit though, and try and go by covers to ask you guys for some recommendations of what else I could/should/have to get.

see above:

although I lied when I said I wouldn't be ordering anything. I ordered the Burkhard Stangl disc, Gerry Hemingway's Slamadam and the Frisque Concordance disc.

Has anyone heard the two Gerry Hemingway solo discs and have an opinion on their worth?

Yes, I've heard the electronic works disc. It's not terribly interesting, except for the short track "Chitterlings".

I was hoping someone would say that. I was really tempted to pick them up, but really need to cap my cd buying this month.

If you're looking for Random Acoustics stuff, the one to get is the Butcher &c Concert Moves.

depending on your perspective, of course. I'd recommend the Stangl, the Polwechsel, the Earl Howard, and the Pair A' Dice over the one Nate picks, but my taste is obviously towards improv incorporating live electronics.

RA was a very important label in their first incarnation, quite a few of their musicians ended up on Erstwhile six or seven years later, for some with little documentation in between (Stangl and Howard being the main two).

I haven't heard those two solo discs, John, I was never too curious about them, for some reason.

I almost bought the Polwechsel until I realized it had been reissued by hat and I already own the material.

I posted this in the WAYLTRN thread:

Albert Ayler - The Hilversum Session - Coppens

e977898eyik.jpg

This is an awesome session, with Don Cherry (cornet), Gary Peacock (bass) and Sunny Murray (drums). George Coppens told me he has only a few copies left. It's available from Cadence. Highly recommended!

I remember hearing this - then strange - music on Dutch radio in 1964; I was totally fascinated by the sounds coming out of my tiny portable transistor radio...

I know a further thunmbs up from me is not needed but if you like Ayler you will love this CD (espsecially if you enjoy Vibrations).

just to throw my two cents in: I'll second (or third) what JAW and Gary said. This disc is fantastic! Essential listening if you are a fan of Ayler.

Thanks again for recommending this disc, J.A.W.!

That's about it, so it's in fact mostly Leo Lab releases. There were some more, but I couldn't remember all the covers...

I have a bunch of those Leo titles.

A quick :tup for Heart and Sack and Bertrand Denzler Cluster.

A BIG :tdown to the Trio Nueva Finlandia title.

Oh, and I believe I like the Remote Viewers disks you picture, as long as one of them isn't the one I sent you. (I'm guessing it's not.)

Nope, didn't list that one. There were several discs on sale taht I have, such as that Remote Viewers disc, the Collective 4tet, a Maneri trio, Chameleo Vulgaris, ARP Music (anyone needs it?), and maybe some more, too.

Thanks for the ratings. Now waiting for our Russian friend to chime in!
