jazzbo
pre-order $11.99Best Buy : John Coltrane SIDE STEPS Sorry to bump this old thread; obsessed with Coltrane at the moment and thoroughly enjoying reading through old threads. Anyway, i cannot believe these sets were available so cheap on release. Must be up there with the deals of the century. Well, they weren't exorbitant on release, but they weren't THAT cheap. That is the cut-out pricing.
colinmce
Right re: Fearless Leader and Interplay, but the Best Buy price above for Side Steps was upon release. Definitely an error that (luckily for me!) they followed through on.
jazzbo
Gotcha. Missed that. Thanks. Was a helluva deal, forgot about that one.
xybert
Yep, that's how I got mine. Picked up the other 2 at the same time from Amazon for $14/ea. Very nice-looking sets, though they're very hard to navigate since the admittedly cobbled-together albums are so thoroughly deconstructed. I'm still at the 'letting it all wash over me' stage but yeah i've never been the best at re-constructing where it all comes from with this type of thing, even when it's noted in the booklet. In general I tend to get interested, look it up, and then promptly forget, for some reason. I'd make a terrible musicologist.
CJ Shearn
I gotta place these recordings in the context now of pre Atlantic Trane, since I just finished that set.
