British Jazz album art

Thanks for that, Jazzjet. Loads of nostalgia there! Used to have Brilliant Corners with the "British" cover, but lent it to someone and you know the rest! Nice to see that the Tubby Hayes Return Visit and Late Spot at Scott's, which I bought on CD not long ago, preserve the original covers. Fifties' design, as in the New Orleans to London cover, which I deplored at the time as being unhip in the age of the Blue Note cover, now seems very attractive and characterful. The chronological order of the display gives a real sense of how things went. Unlike Bev, it's only with the last third that I feel out of touch. A question of which generation you belong to, I suppose!

Thanks Jazzjet!

I had four:

Mike Westbrook - Marching Song

Mike Westbrook - Love Songs

Elton Dean

John Stevens - Chemistry

The disturbing thing for me was how many of them I USED to have but subsequently sold, only to find out later how valuable they would become.

(recorded at the Bulls Head in Barnes).

... which, of course, I frequented. Particularly remember hearing Dick Morrisey there. Much more recently, I recall Humphrey Lyttelton reporting that residents of new apartments near the Bull's Head had sought a court order forbidding music, but that sanity had prevailed. Anyone have details of this?

Last I heard it got resolved - they are certainly still actively hosting gigs. In fact I have never been there so with another London visit coming up I may pay a call. I've got the feeling Art Themen is playing there next week so may check it out.

That Dick Morrissey 'Storm Warning' LP on Mercury was recorded at the Bulls Head I believe. Would like a copy of that one !

I've got a fine LP under Jimmy Witherspoon's name ( 'Spoon Sings and Swings' ) recorded at the Bulls Head with Dick Morrissey and Phil Seaman. It really cooks. Will swap for 'Storm Warning'!
