jeffcrom
Ancient Strings - Barenreiter Musicaphon (CD Buda Musique) (1970) The prime classic kora album – a work as important in its field as “Kind of blue”. Well, I'm dipping my toe into the water - I ordered this today.
seeline
One of the best African music blogs around, Likembe, has started featuring contemporary kora music made for the W. African market. Definitely worth checking out! Here's one of the K7 covers he's posted: One of the congnoscenti says ". . . Tata's solo style is extremely impressive and in fact leaves the older Paris-based kora players like Mory Kante very much in the shade. Absolute magic all the way through." Bring on the K7s! * Edited to add: while I'm not crazy about the arrangements on Tata's cassette, I like his playing and singing a lot. "Duwa" is super. It's so good it's worth a bit of proselytizing.
