Durium
ERROLL GARNER Concert By The Sea Erroll Garner's Concert By The Sea is one of those records that should be in any record collection. It became, although recorded on a simple reel-to-reel tape recorder - the sound quality was not good at all, a million seller in the 1950s. Concert By The Sea is a flawed monument of perfection. This recording was a dichotomy, a paradox, where the unlearned not only prevail, but create art of a lasting quality. This is the art. BillF
Yes, it's a great disc! The 60s LP is still in my collection, but played very rarely as I know to the note what's coming next!
mjzee
Is the pictured version the best available version? I remember that, for years, it was only available in rechanneled stereo.
Brad
Thank you for the thread Hans and the link to your site (excellent restrospective). Unfortunately, I never picked up this disc -- don't know why -- but I'll have to look for it if I can.
jlhoots
Concert By The Sea was my very first jazz LP.
vegheadjones
Great album with one of my favorite tracks of all time-- "It's Alright by Me." Love how he alternates between beautiful melodies and rhythmic pounding on the keys.
pioneer
We just released a tribute recording to Erroll. We had a great time putting it together and hopefully we will be doing more. The player, Ernie Edwards has been playing Garner and Shearing for years. He's been blind since birth! It's on iTunes, Napster or our site, www.visionventures.ning.com. Video clips are on vimeo as well.
JSngry
The player, Ernie Edwards has been playing Garner and Shearing for years. He's been blind since birth! He must have an extra-special affinity for Shearing then!
ajf67
Good LP. I have an old mono Columbia six-eye that I picked up very cheap. I haven't ever heard it on CD so I don't know which newer mastering is better.
mr jazz
it's way overdue for remastering but there are issues that have been discussed here before.
