Best Organ Solos/Bass Lines to start transcribing.

So I am fairly new to playing jazz and haven't attempted any transcriptions yet. What are some good organ basslines or solos that would be fairly easy to pick up. I'm thinking I might start with the Back at the Chicken Shack album. Any other suggestions? Especially any albums that it's a bit easier to hear the basslines, I find it harder to hear them on organ records unless the album is really well recorded.

Back at The Chicken Shack is a great song to start on...maybe not the whole album for beginning though. An album I think is great for beginning to learn organ basslines and comping, soloing is Jack McDuff's "Tough Duff" on Prestige. There is no guitar player on that album just vibes, sax, organ and drums. So it's very easy to hear everything since the guitar usually occupies that same frequency range. Also, check out the song The Sermon by Jimmy Smith. Groove Holmes' "Soul Message" album is also very good for clear definition of the organ's specific parts...start with the song "Groove's Groove."

All good suggestions. For modern recordings, check out Joey D. His basslines are solid and you can hear them really well due to modern recording techniques. Just don't try his solos unless you want to break your fingers!

I've always loved the bassline intro that Jimmy Smith played on "All Day Long", from this 1957 LP:

word. a great place to start too...and in bflat, most other organ blues walking basslines from jimmy are in f. so that much better. i would suggest learning a medium blues in f, the b flat, g, c, e flat, a flat and d flat... in that order. f and b flat should keep you busy for a year or two or ten !
