The Mal Waldron does look good. It's $22 at J&R.

Thanks. FWIW, J&R currently has free shipping on $25+ and a bunch of RVGs @ $5.99.

I broke down and ordered the Waldron set fron J&R. The order got cancelled without any explanation. Too good to be true, I suppose. :shrug[1]:

I ordered three "free shipping" boxes from J & R over an 8-day period ending Sunday 4/15. [Edited] Received the Waldron, first one ordered. The second one has shipped. The third one wound up getting cancelled - initial e-mail was a little weird, but after further investigation it appears to be a simple case of "out of stock". I do notice, however, that the "new price" for "forward delivery" (4/30 or later) is some $6 higher than the price of my cancelled order... <_<

I sent an e-mail to their customer service about the cancel and upcharge. The reply calmed me a bit:

Thank you for your email. The item was cancelled from your order because it is sold out when your order was filled and we do not backorder CDs or DVDs. We do not warehouse CDs and DVDs as they are housed on the selling floor of our NYC store. Titles shown as in stock on our website are not necessary in stock but rather are current titles which we may still obtain from our many different distributors. We will certainly honor the lower price of the same item. Please call us to place the order and reference order number XXXXXX. We apologize for any inconvenience.

We truly appreciate the time you took to write to us and hope that we have addressed your concerns. If we may be of further assistance, please call us at 1(800) 426-6027 or 718-340-0397. Monday through Friday from 9am to 6pm Eastern, Saturday 9-5, or write to us again.

Thank you.

Thanks! I had meekly assumed the price change wasn't negotiable. I phoned the 800 # in my e-mail message (different from above) and was able to renew the order at the original price. FWIW, the dude on the phone was very helpful and competent.

Lee Konitz, The Milestone Albums

Anybody know anything about this? Very cheap.

http://www.amazon.it/The-milestone-albums-Konitz-lee/dp/B007R3TH0W/ref=sr_1_11?s=music&ie=UTF8&qid=1335190442&sr=1-11

Thanks. Looks like a new addition to the same series that has straight ports of the pre-Concord Fantasy albums in budget boxed sets. Previous ones included Tatum on Pablo, Evans on Riverside, Coltrane on Prestige...

The track listing for the "new" Konitz is here.

Also, a search of Amazon.it brings up similar releases for Chet Baker and Eric Dolphy, also very cheap. Again, Universal has track listings for the Baker here and the Dolphy here.

I was completely unaware of those two duet albums w/Alan Broadbent on Milestone. completely slipped under my radar...this looks like a good set to get, then, good value and "from the source".

The only Konitz Milestone album I'm not too into is Peace Meal. The others range from damn good to great, imo.

I've got the two Konitz/Broadbents. Then again, I'm a fiend for sax duos. (Also have Broadbent's Concord live session with Gary Foster. Nice.)

The Konitz/Broadbents are nice because Konitz plays well and Broadbent avoids straight comp-ing, so it's more interplay-ful.

There is a Johnny Smith Mosaic DISCS ONLY at reckless.com for $40. Also some complete sets at good prices. Search 'mosaic'

Their price for a USED Bird Benedetti set is preposterous at $275. The set will be in print as long as Mosaic exists. Someone there obviously doesn't know their shit.

Yeah, that's why I shop jazz there-- almost always works in your favor save odd exceptions like this. They once sold a Hardee/Quebec LP Mosaic for $20, the Don Pullen Select for $30 ... That $99 Manone/Prima is also a steal. They also never know to price OOP mass market jazz CDs higher than usual so it can be a great place for stuff like that, too. I got the Complete Armstrong RCA set for $12 there.

Just to close the loop here, J&R really came through. I re-ordered. I was too lazy to call (and out of the country), so I wasn't worried about the five bucks. But they adjusted the price and I got the original order price without lifting a finger. :tup

I'm not much of a shopper, but I'll be dropping by when I'm in New York next week. Support the good 'uns.

There is a ton of 80s-era live Pepper out there, but this is one of the very best. Great sound too!

That Atlantic set looks really nice. Is the audio quality okay with the earlier tracks?

I bought the vinyl when these sets came out in the mid/late 80's (7 double LP's) - fantastic music but the sound wasn't the greatest but hopefully there may have been an improvement on the CDs

I mostly listen to my music on my iPod or computer speakers, so perhaps I'm not the best person to answer that question. I sampled some and they sounded fine.
