AllenLowe
with a major new CD project on the horizon (coming in 2-3 months, 3 cd set of my own blues stuff with Ribot/Rudd/Shipp) I have decided to set up my own little promotional wing; I just cannot afford to have anyone else do it for me. I have a good and substatial list of current and active critics but am discovering that it is difficult to find actual emails and other contact info, even on the internet (queries sent to general mailboxes go unanswered more often than not). I'm going to be doing a bit of Facebook searching, but I was also wondering if anyone out there in Jazz-ville has a decent or comprehensive emal list of jazz crtics of all media that they might be willing to share or even sell. also, if you happen to be a critic, let me know, with your contact info, and I will put you on the list. RJ Spangler
Scott Yanow sounds like your man. http://www.scottyanow.com/index.html
AllenLowe
probably not a good idea - let's just say that we have......creative differences.....
RJ Spangler
Too bad, he does offer various lists for sale & at easonable prices. Maybe have a friend purchase them from him for you?
AllenLowe
actully, thanks to Tom Marcello here, I am in pretty good shape now for contacts - and, honestly, I wouldn't give Yanow 10 cents for the Buddy Bolden cylinder. But we won't get into that now -
RJ Spangler
LOL!
Johnny E
Scott put me on his list and now I get every damn CD that comes down the pike. Unfortunately for every good disc I receive I get 100 lame/kitschy/cliché pieces of nastiness. On a side note: Tom - can I get that list too? Reptet just released a kitschy piece of crap ;-)
Fer Urbina
Allen, do you know this? Jazzinstitut Darmstadt - journos list F
Guest Bill Barton
Slightly afield from what you're talking about, Allen, but perhaps helpful if you're looking for radio contacts too, is the Jazz Programmers List (it's a listserv). http://lists.jazzweek.com/mailman/listinfo/jazzproglist
Lazaro Vega
I'd second the jazz programmer's list. You can see there, too, who's playing what (for the most part).
AllenLowe
thanks, everybody. I appreciate it. I am now aware that there are actually more jazz critics than people who buy jazz product.
Lazaro Vega
Yup. You can send out way more free ones then you'd actually sell......
JSngry
So....forcing reviewers to buy their own copies of new product would probably, what, double sales? Triple? Quadruple? Right? Right?
Chuck Nessa
+ 25% on some titles.

JSngry
I'm just wondering how much "natural curiosity" some of these people would have if they had to be curious on their own dime...

AllenLowe
it's funny this comes up because not too long ago I posted to some thread on Facebook that critics might be more discerning if they had to pay for their cds- the comment was not well received.
