There seems to have been a string of recent SABA/MPS reissues of other artists as well, but I haven't been able to find any comprehensive listing.

Dave Pike - Salomoao

Dave Pike - Four Reasons

Volker Kriegel - Tropical Harvest

Volker Kriegel - Octember Variations

Maynard Ferguson - Trumpet Rhapsody

George Duke - Jazz Workshop 1966

Kenny Clarke - Francy Boland Big Band - Faces

Kenny Clarke - Francy Boland Big Band - Latin Kaleidoscope / Cuban Fever

All released April 12, 2011 in Germany. There was another batch on February 15 - do you want me to list them, too?

Thought I'd help out, mike! :)

Good to know the one Gulda is worth getting, thanks!

Will also get "Missing Link", I think.

The Mangelsdorffs all used to be part of the "complete" edition Universal Germany put out a few years ago ("Originals Vol. 1" and "Originals Vol. 2" each containing five albums on five single discs in separate jewel cases in a filmsy box; "Live" was a 2CD set containing the two live albums and "Solo" a 2CD set containing the three solo albums... or was that 2 solos on 2 cds and 3 live on 2cds? Either way, two 5CD sets, two 2CD sets, plus "Albert Mangelsdorff & Friends", still available in its previous form from around 2004 or so, also in Universal's MPS reissue series.)

Faces was on one of the pricey double CD boxes Gigi Campi issued many years ago, but this is the first single CD reissue.

I think, "sorta", Mike. If you're referring to the Emanon One release, it had what was described as "Sketches from the 'Faces' Suite" and included Vortograph 3'56"/The Griffin 1'41"/Macrographs 3'47".

I don't know how this matches up with what Amazon.de says the new release has:

1. 1st movement: Vortographs 9:57

2. 2nd movement: solarization 7:40

3. 3rd movement: panchromatic 3:41

4. 4th movement: Macrographic 13:38

Oh - I better check this one more closely ...

  • 4 weeks later...

Got me a copy of Faces - this is new to CD, indeed! Great example of Boland's fabulous writing.

FWIW - this JazzLips reissue combines all tracks of the Now Hear Our Meanin' (1-6) and Handle with care (7-12) albums with four more tracks (13-16 - these could be from the Karl Drewo album - anyone with more info on them?). A good buy if you don't have the individual CD reissues available on Collectables a while ago.

51My5R6NldL._SS500_.jpg

1. Long note blues (Here is Cecco Beppe)

2. Get out of town

3. Sonor

4. Speedy reeds

5. Old stuff

6. Om mani padme hum

7. Johnny one note

8. Night lady

9. I' m so scared of girls when they' re good looking

10. Sabbath message

11. Now hear my meanin'

12. A ball for Othello

13. My favourite things

14. Just give me time

15. Keep on keeping on

16. Wives and lovers

Thanks for the heads-up but I've never heard of the JazzLips label. I presume it's one these 'Andoran outfits' .... what's the recording quality like?

I have the JazzLips, sound is ok.

Vic

For those who problems with their spouse, don't tell them, and check the mailbox before she do LOL, that is what I do, I would guess my wife have only noticed 25% of what I have received, and I have my little private room where my collection is, she rarely comes there.

I believe JazzLips is situated in Great Britain or elsewhere - Fresh Sound lists only a few CDs from their catalogue, where UK and German mail order shops list 20 or more - see here.

I haven't heard this particular CD, but others from the label sounded fine.
