Not sure if this one's already been posted. It was issued in November 2015.

Eugene Ormandy Conducts Sibelius (Sony, 8 CDs)

Apparently, this box collects all of Ormandy's stereo Sibelius recordings for Columbia/Sony & RCA -- except for the Oistrakh Violin Concerto.

I like Ormandy's way with Sibelius very much. I've heard his 2nd & 7th (on Sony) and his re-do of the 2nd (on RCA) -- as well as the Oistrakh VC. All VERY strong.

Looking forward to hearing the rest. :)

EDIT:
Forgot to mention that it can be had for less than $20 postage paid.

Would it kill Sony do include the mono recordings?  Ormandy's conducting of Sibelius in the 1950s was solid.

I wouldn't mind hearing those too.

But at least we can hear the stereo recordings -- and cheaply too.  (I almost plopped for some Japanese reissues of this music. Glad I held off. It would've been more money for less music.)

Box set fever still running high  I'm seeing Handel Oratorios on Decca, Pinchas Zuckerman on DG, Gergiev on Decca, Emersons on DG, Pierre Monteux on Decca, Pires on DG. And that's just in the next few weeks  to say nothing of the recent boxes, not all of which we have discussed - Haydn Symphonies on Decca, DG Mono Years, etc  etc etc

I don't think this has been mentioned before - Dutoit The Montreal Years (Decca)

35 CDs - most but not all of Dutoit's recordings with the OSM on Decca.

It's going for about $75 US on Amazon and about $100 Can on Amazon.ca

http://www.amazon.com/Montreal-Years-35-Box-Set/dp/B017V92WX0/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1464949620&sr=8-1&keywords=dutoit+decca

In this case, I am going to pass, as there were really only a few performances that caught my eye, and I can pick and choose from them.  Also, our library has a lot of these.

There are a few other relatively recent box sets where the Canadian price is actually the bargain, particularly when currency exchange rates are considered.

I'm about to place an order for Yuri Bashmet Complete RCA Recordings

https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B01B17C4LI/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_S_ttl?_encoding=UTF8&colid=17IN2YRCH3JCX&coliid=I3D9VGQ491KI9F

I'll probably order the Malcolm Arnold Complete Conifer Recordings (Vernon Handley is the one conducting all the symphonies on this set)

https://www.amazon.ca/Sir-Malcolm-Arnold-Complete-Recordings/dp/B01B17C4TK/ref=pd_cp_15_1?ie=UTF8&refRID=5TCD58NVR5MEJ8HJE4M7

I'm quite torn on the Andre Previn Conducts Vaughan Williams, as I literally am missing only one disc from the set (Symphony #5 and Tuba Concerto), but I'll probably succumb just to consolidate the other discs and save some shelf space.

https://www.amazon.ca/Conducts-Vaughan-Williams-Symphonies-Concerto/dp/B019STIIHA/ref=sr_1_1?s=music&ie=UTF8&qid=1464950168&sr=1-1&keywords=previn+vaughan+williams

I've got most of these Hilary Hahn Sony CDs, so I'll pass, but it's still a pretty good deal:

If you like Renaissance music, Berkshire usually has lots of good titles on Hyperion/Helios, e.g. currently 6 discs with the Binchois Consort, 11 with The Cardinall's Musick, and 9 with the Brabant Ensemble. Hyperion is a good label to peruse, as Berkshire carries loads of titles (659 by my count; they must have a relationship with the company). Another label to pick through is Regis, which appears to be a legitimate company licensing and reissuing well-known recordings dropped from major label catalogs.

You're vouching for this one, right?

1000% yes. The packaging, I should have mentioned, is exceptional too-- it's not some 'cap box' like many of the classical sets but rather a hard cardboard case akin to some of the old Fantasy sets like Monk / Prestige, Sonny / Contemporary but the discs & booklet are in a slide out 'tray'-ish thing. Or, from the outside it looks like a thicker / squatter variation of the first pressing Miles / Sony sets. I mention this because unusual and also kudos to Erato really taking care with both the presentation and sound. That's not always true with their parent 'Warner Classics', let alone some of the shoddy-- albeit inexpensive-- Sony / RCA sets. (A company which is certainly capable of better-- am I correct to recall you snagged the swank Monteux box a while back?)
