Was there a novelization of Bladerunner? I know Jeter did three books following the story of the film AFTER the movie, which were vaguely interesting.

Well, I guess not after all (just the PKD original with a different cover/title and sometimes some stills ftom the movie inside). I sure thought there was one. I did see that Amazon resellers are selling what purports to be a copy of the movie script!

IIRC there was a novelization of Dr.Strangelove written by the guy who wrote the novel on which it was based.

Beautiful film!
This fan of Tourneur was taken by surprise when I watched the movie for the first time. The atheist in me was in no positive spirit after reading a résumé. The film almost turned me into a convert! One of Tourneur's best :tup

I liked it too. I'm fond of the Bruce Campbell cameos on the television soap opera that shows up occasionally throughout the film.

I thought it was a classic screwball comedy, just enough over the top for a modern audience. So the minority grows! :g

First time I've seen this since I saw it in the theater in 1969. I have to admit, it makes a lot more sense than it did at age 11...

And with a memorable musical score by Michel Legrand.
Get the full-length soundtrack LP on MGM records!

(Marilyn and Alan Bergman were at a loss for words for this Legrand project.)

The Deep Blue Sea - Terence Davis (2011)

Posted Image

Rather mopey tale, Hester has it off with Freddie, the narcissist ex fighter pilot still living in the Battle Of Britain, to the dismay of hubbie Sir William, leading to the inevitable bother , suicide attempts etc.

Davis has the 1940-1950's down pat, he should have as most of his films are set then, Rachel Weisz is in good form as the suffering Hester. I didn't find it at all slow and thought it was actually quite attention holding. It was marred by some incredibly corny Monty Python dialogue. ' Just back from giving Jerry a damned good thrashing, had to ditch the crate in the channel but it was a whizzing prank' , and a really bizarre flashback at Aldwych Underground station.
Strictly for miserable gits ( but rather good in it's own way).

Last Wednesday went to see the TCM 70th anniversary showing of "Casablanca" downtown. I had almost forgotten what an extra pleasure it is to see that film on the big screen. Really freaking huge, actually. And the appreciative chuckles of the audience at the various witty lines gave it all an extra lift, too. I almost didn't bother to go, so I'm really glad I did.

Just watched The Children of Chabannes, a moving documentary telling and showing how 400 Jewish refugee children were given santuary at Chateau de Chabannes, a school in a remote town in the south of France, and how the director of the school, educators, a Jewish rescue group, and people living in the town managed to save all but six of the children from being sent to concentration camps.
An interesting point made in passig was that the people of Chabannes, in general, were not religious, were not political, didn't read newspapers from larger cities in France, and were isolated from contact with the urban areas of France. All of those things may have been factors in their bravery and their kindness toward the children the town sheltered.
Watching it made me wonder if I would act in the same manner as the people who risked their own lives to save the lives of those children.

Recommended.

I don't expect a lot of agreement, but I believe this is my favorite film. (I started to say 'of all time', but that's a pretty silly expression for such a young medium.)
