Saw this at a recent Dark City Noirfest; it is quite entertaining.

Damn good film; and such a wonderful cast, too!

Didn't go to see this in the theater because the trailers made it look as if the effects were cheap. The darned thing actually had decent effects.

Sorry, this thread makes me dizzy. I know it is my fault. Sorry I can't keep up.
Last night Ann and I watched Polanski's Carnage. Wonderful.

Very derivative - 2001 and Solaris are big influences. But very gripping, as one disaster after another strikes. Looks good - special effects well done. Was reminded of it by a list of best SF films ever - don't know if I'd put it there!

I loved Sunshine, it's derivative...but it's derivative of GOOD sci-fi (I mean if you're going to pay homage then you could do a helluva lot worse than 2001 and Solaris). One of my favorite films of this genre in the last decade, helped along by Danny Boyle whose films I generally enjoy. I also really like Cillian Murphy and Rose Byrne, their presence is a definite plus.

I've started watching the Pink Panther movies one more time. Have to take them slowly, though...trying to watch them back to back can lead to pulled rib muscles.

A Shot In The Dark is my favorite, the screenplay by William Peter Blatty (The Exorcist) is a classic.

What did you think of "T-Men"?

It's a very good film as are all of the early-middle period B&W Mann collaborations with ace cinematographer John Alton. His contribution is really inseparable from the director's. The undercover cop theme - plus the Dragnet style voice over- is in strong evidence in Border Incident too, that's a nasty, brutal little opus. My favourite from that period is Side Street. The toned down voice over helps but stylistically all the pieces come together very well. They didn't mess around back then, it is amazing that Mann and Alton together knocked out so many classics one after another in such a short period.
From 47-50 we got T Men, Raw Deal, He Walked By Night, Border Incident, Side Street and Devil's Doorway. That's quite something. I get a lot of satisfaction rewatching these classics, they generally atone for some of the poor excuse for films we have these days.

I don't think she's a bimbo. . . I've enjoyed her acting in a few movies, I think she's smart and capable.

i'm w/ you jazzbo. smart and capable is spot on.

and while admittedly i posted her photo 'cuz she's crazy gorgeous imo, i thought paul's post, however unintentionally, was kinda bad form. maybe it was bad form for me to write i thought she was beautiful. oh well...

Another good-to-great early Mann is "Desperate"---I was shocked to find, though, that Alton is NOT the cinematographer on that one.
