My Name Is Julia Ross - Joseph H. Lewis (1945)
Saw this at a recent Dark City Noirfest; it is quite entertaining.
Stars In My Crown - Jacques Tourneur (1950)
Damn good film; and such a wonderful cast, too!

Very derivative - 2001 and Solaris are big influences. But very gripping, as one disaster after another strikes. Looks good - special effects well done. Was reminded of it by a list of best SF films ever - don't know if I'd put it there!
How did you like it?

I've started watching the Pink Panther movies one more time. Have to take them slowly, though...trying to watch them back to back can lead to pulled rib muscles.

Hunger Games
Guilty pleasure maybe with all of the high-falutin' stuff in this thread, but I really liked it.

It's a very good film as are all of the early-middle period B&W Mann collaborations with ace cinematographer John Alton. His contribution is really inseparable from the director's. The undercover cop theme - plus the Dragnet style voice over- is in strong evidence in Border Incident too, that's a nasty, brutal little opus. My favourite from that period is Side Street. The toned down voice over helps but stylistically all the pieces come together very well. They didn't mess around back then, it is amazing that Mann and Alton together knocked out so many classics one after another in such a short period.
He Walked By Night - Anthony Mann (1948)
T-Men - Anthony Mann (1947)
What did you think of "T-Men"?

I don't think she's a bimbo. . . I've enjoyed her acting in a few movies, I think she's smart and capable.
Didn't seem like thedwork posted her photo because of her acting ability.
Still, didn't seem appropriate to label her one imo.

From 47-50 we got T Men, Raw Deal, He Walked By Night, Border Incident, Side Street and Devil's Doorway. That's quite something. I get a lot of satisfaction rewatching these classics, they generally atone for some of the poor excuse for films we have these days.
