At this stage of the "digital world", why would anyone buy anything?

I have a few friends who live too far away from civilization to have access to cable or high speed internet service. So that's one situation, though probably not a common one in this thread. ;)

Essential Art House, Volume III (Ashes and Diamonds / Forbidden Games / The Hidden Fortress / Last Holiday / Richard III / Variety Lights), from Criterion, for $29.99: Amazon.

Oddly, only this volume is at this price; odder still is that they carry volumes 1, 3 & 4, but not volume 2.

The Criterion edition of Forbidden Games is excellent--lots of great special features. It's a rather odd mix of films in this set.

I must have gotten a one-day sale or something, but I just ordered "Apocalypse Now - 3 disk Full Disclosure Edition" Blu-ray for $18.49 from Amazon. It's already reverted to a more normal price of $39.99.

Price has dropped a bit in the meantime. I notice an awful lot of reviewers who have the product in hand (rather than making some generic points about the original vs. redux) say there are a huge number of pressing problems with the Blu-Ray, including freezing up and audio drop-outs. Sounds like something to hold off on until they get the kinks worked out.

A few weeks ago my friend Dave brought his copy over and we watched "Redux." Not one problem with it, just beautiful sight and sound.

Well, not the world's greatest bargain, but perhaps of some interest: Greenaway box

This is a Peter Greenaway box of his early shorts and his first full-length film The Falls. I'd probably rather just rent it myself (I used to live near a DVD shop that definitely would have stocked this (Facets) -- a lot less likely now and NetFlix still won't ship DVDs in Canada -- it's streaming only :( ).
