alocispepraluger102
-the knobs, switches, dials--all the inputs, outputs, tuners etc.-clean and smooth it must weigh 25 pounds. sounds great with my old vinyls. it's got 4 inputs-that's enough for me. no blems-- sure, it's not audiophile, but i definitely got my 10 dollars worth. http://www.audioasylum.com/reviews/Receiver/Pioneer/SX-780/general/338678.html Edited November 2, 2011 by alocispepraluger102

jeffcrom
Almost the same amp/receiver that powers my 78 rig - the few slight differences hint that yours is a year or two earlier or later than mine.
Uncle Skid
I had the model below that one (SX-680, if I remember correctly) for many years. Bought it new, in 1979, with paper route money. Left channel eventually went out, and it sat in my basement for years before I finally got rid of it. Power meters! jazzbo
Yes, but that wasn't the case when that was a new receiver.

RDK
An SX-780! That's the model I had when I was a kid. Those old Pioneers are great receivers. I have a similar model now.
Chuck Nessa
Folks with way too much money try to find audio components better than their daddies. My best system is about 40 years old.

My best system is about 40 years old. my favorite turntable is a 50 year old dual 1015 with a 7 pound platter. An SX-780! That's the model I had when I was a kid. Those old Pioneers are great receivers. I have a similar model now. the tuner is much better than the 1990 pioneer vsx 3800 that i've used daily since 1991. Leeway
Just curious if we even have rich guys on the board. Anyone care to step up and identify themselves as 1 percent-ers? Sneering at Aloc's new old amp is not required

sidewinder
I had the model below that one (SX-680, if I remember correctly) for many years. Bought it new, in 1979, with paper route money. Left channel eventually went out, and it sat in my basement for years before I finally got rid of it. Power meters! Wow. That 780 model was the one I bought - in late 1978 !! In fact my parents are still running the thing, it looks 'near new' and still sounds fine (the FM tuner is no slouch). Certainly a bargain when you consider how it has been used. And the lights are still all working ! I ran it with a Dual direct-drive turntable, Mission speakers and a JVC cassette deck. It was the 'dogs bollox' at the time. A 'massive' 35 watts into 4 ohms, if I remember right.. The only thing I still use from that set-up is the Zerostat (although still have the speakers) ! alocispepraluger102
do any of you remember those sexy audio gear items from the audio magazines in the 60s rhapsodizing about the virtues and beauty of the new equipment. the photography was better than first rate? speaking of power, tuner sensitivity, and fantasizing---------------- fisher, at that time, was one of the guiltier players. i drooled more than my share; now that drool dust is in the cutout bin of a thrift store. BeBop
I can't quite make it out in the picture, but I bet this baby has a phono input. Useful. And, these days, the exception, rather than the rule.

And, these days, the exception, rather than the rule. the phono input, indeed, and it sonically blows away the phono inputs/outputs of 25 year younger pioneer models. there is a dimension and presence to the vinyls my panasonic vsx 9800 has been lacking. it's like i'm hearing many recordings for the first time. that's the best part of this receiver.
