Do you get a decent discography with it? Line-ups, dates?

Any liner notes?

My Bechet was only just sent out... guess it will take a week or so to arrive.

And lest I forget: always a pleasure to see you around here!

Flurin,

a) longer text by Fabrice Zammarchi in both French and English

b) bunch of photos

c) "Recordings" section (see photo link below)

d) Some basic reissue info (also studio 101 remastering)

That looks mighty good! Where did you find the listing?

In jazzmasters.fr. That, and a bit of formatting.

I got the Ella, and it looks impressive. I caught an apparent typo (caption: surely Ray Brown wasn't playing with Ella and Louis Jordan in 1940 - nice photo, though), but it does look good. Liners are by Alain Tercinet, about 14 pages in French, around same in English, plus interspersed pics, and discography (booklet is 68 pages, size is slightly under an A5).

Haven't listened to it yet.

It seems that the Armstrong is now the same prices as the others on amazon.fr

Still weird difference in Amazon.co.uk, although is "out of stock", so maybe price will be changed when stock is back.

I'm curious about the Armstrong, especially how it compares to the Mosaic.

I've just compared - the new box contains all the master takes of the Mosaic, except for session QQ (8/9/44) - which is weird because it was a Decca date - and session SS (1/18/46) - presumably because it's after 1945.

I was eyeing up copies of all these in the Paris stores this week. They look good!

Do we know yet if they are remastered from original sources or from 78s, LPs or even older CDs?

As was mentioned over on the Hoffman site these French sets were mastered by Studio 101, but I understand no further info is given in the booklets.
