king ubu
Oh shit, that's sad. Very much an unsung hero. r.i.p.
mikeweil
Oh no .... I instantly loved his playing style when I first heard him on those many Eddie Harris records - still have them. Then I heard a John Klemmer track from a Chess LP on the radio, and wrote the moderator if it was Jodie Christian on piano - he answered I was right and complemented me on my ears. I've been following his career ever since. One of those many players without whom the scene would be much less varied an interesting. R.I.P., and many thanks for your inspiring piano. johnlitweiler
What a good and kind man, along with being a wonderfully versatile pianist. He created joy for six decades. Here's an interview he gave me 10 years ago: http://jazztimes.com/articles/19751-jodie-christian-perfect-accompaniment

JSngry
Somebody whose name on a record made it that much more likely that I'd buy it. RIP, and thank you.
Free For All
Oh man, I'm so sorry to hear this. I played and recorded with Jodie in Chicago, he was a great musician and friend. I learned a lot from him. Rest in Peace.
John Tapscott
Sad news. RIP. The only Jodie Christian CD I own is this one and it's a good one. I will listen to it later in his honor.
johnlitweiler
Here's another one: http://www.chicagojazz.com/magazine/jodie-christian-supporting-role-637.html Thanks for the link, King. That one is even better because for the first (only?) time in print he mentions his ministry and his Parkinson's.

Justin V
I've only heard his playing on Ira Sullivan's Blue Stroll and Mike Smith's Unit 7, both of which are very enjoyable. After recently acquiring the Smith album, I was looking forward to hearing more of Christian's music. RIP.
