sidewinder Posted February 24, 2012 Report Share Posted February 24, 2012 (edited) Looks like there's some more titles coming up after the May 'cutoff' - there was a mention of this on the Hoffmann Forum with Acoustic Sounds giving details on their pre-order page: Music Matters - Acoustic Sounds Preorders Some very nice looking titles on there. They did release Along Came John, but didn't have good words for that either. Said that Grant Green's guitar was out of tune, and he sounded drunk on the master tapes. So the usual arguments. Anyone have John Jenkins/Kenny Burrell Music Masters (mono) edition and can compare the sound to the Conn CD or the Toshiba LP ? I have these two but find both a little unsatisfactory. Sadly, suspect you might be right. I've got the feeling that it came out as a 'Conn' (Wally in the run-out) LP - that might be a cost-effective way of getting the LP. This accolade stems from me as a 15-year-old who bought 'Puttin' in 1969 as his first jazz LP purchase. These 45 rpm Blue Note pressings are amazing in how they reveal the bass and drums 'right there' in front of you. Steve Hoffman and Kevin Gray worked hard to break RVG's secret recording 'code' which had been a cloaking device for bass and drums. This release should fill in the reissue vinyl gap for anyone who didn't get the Analogue Productions issues. Almost all of It (and probably all of it) has been released so many times, including on audiophile LPs, that everyone who has an interest must have heard it by now. I guess there are audiophiles (as opposed to music lovers) who are still looking for new recordings to check out their gear with. Paul, I think that there are a number of audiophiles who have been discovering this great music through these series so. . . well that's good isn't it, people discovering the music? And it makes sense from the company's standpoint to market well known titles, so that an audiophile starting out to explore jazz now has lots to read about each release and can feel it's not so risky to purchase this or that title.
