RIP Leon Spencer Jr.

That's terrible news.

I heard him live about a year and a half ago at Jazz Standard in an Alvin Queen led group--he still sounded great.

And back around 1985 or so he played at the Caravan of Dreams in Fort Worth with David Newman (plus guitar and drums) for a weekend engagement. I was there two nights in a row. Probably the most inspired I ever heard David Newman play, that group was really good.

I've only relatively recently gotten really hip to him & was hoping to someday, somehow hear him live.

Sorry to see him go.

A REAL shame, Leon was criminally underrated and I really enjoy his recordings. I think his volume of Legends Of Acid Jazz is essential for that style, dude could play!

The album "Where I'm Coming From" is excellent as well, including a killer version of "Trouble Man".
