robertoart
They had jazz clubs in 1369? Actually it's just coming to light now. They were mostly whites only, Allen Lowe is investigating
A Lark Ascending
Given that the Black Death was in full flow I wouldn't have thought gatherings of excited Bebop fans would have been approved by the authorities. This was most likely the venue: Burning witches was more the thing to do on a Saturday night round there. Michael Weiss
I played there with Johnny Griffin in 1985. I remember a nice vibe in the club. People were there to listen.
Stereojack
I played there with Johnny Griffin in 1985. I remember a nice vibe in the club. People were there to listen. I attended that gig! The film was shown around town at the time. I remember seeing it at a showing at one of the local theaters, perhaps the Brattle (?)

stevebop
Hello all. back in the day, later 1970's-mid-80's, the 1369 Jazz Club in Inman Square, Cambridge, MA, was the joint, where it went down- local musicians coming up, New York cats doing it, everyone throwing down for the music. Incredible place and time for the music; I was fortunate to be part of that scene! This is a Kickstarter campaign to raise funds to bring an incredible documentary to light, footage from the day at the 1369. This is important work: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1533059189/a-place-for-jazz spread the word... thanks!
tranemonk
Thanks Steve. The minute you posted it to Facebook I went over to the site and contributed to the project. I can't remember if I went there but it was an important part of Boston jazz history. When did it go out of the of jazz biz? I really hope people contribute as it seems to be off to a slow start. makpjazz57
Sorry I missed out on the 1369 Club. Going through my Mom's photos and found this one. Do not know the name of the bartender.
