I compulsively look at the clearance sections at Target. Mostly because I am cheap. Sometimes I even find that one thing that makes all other fruitless searches worth it. Today was one of those days.

For $19 (regular price $69.99), I scored this Crosely Portable Turntable. It is still listed at full retail on the site, but they'll likely be priced down in the stores themselves.

I know it is a Crosley, and it will be no threat to my Pro-Ject 1.2 turntable at home. But, I now have something that I can play 78s on, which is new to me. It has RCA outs, and will stow away quite easily. :rhappy:

I think I might buy that just so I can take it to Half Price Books and test out all the records I look at there. :g

At Target here in Oregon, they only have full price units.
Saw a different one, model CR49, online-that one is about $120.

WD45:

How does the Crosley work?

Reviews are very mixed but as long as it does not ruin your LPs you got a monster bargain!

Seems to work ok.

Played a bunch of 45s and one LP. Mis-tracked on one of the 45s.

I'm about to be the recipient of 6 boxes of 78s - we'll see how it plays those. (This will be its primary use.) If it doesn't do well, back to the store it goes!

For just a few more dollars, you can have one of these Crosleys:

One of my local Targets doesn't have it on sale. I'll check the other two ASAP.

There's a whole bunch of them around here.
