Daniel A
After the LT series, now we have the BNLA series; 50 reissues coming up in November 2012-January 2013 covering the last period of the "old" Blue Note. J.A.W.
Thanks for posting this, Daniel. That series was a very mixed bag, with some good albums and some (very) poor ones (in my opinion ).
felser
Thanks for posting this, Daniel. That series was a very mixed bag, with some good albums and some (very) poor ones (in my opinion ). Yep, mostly poor for sure, the dreadful, commercial United Artists era, but I wholeheartedly recommend the Hutcherson Montreux CD and the Elvin Jones Lighthouse set. Also, the Silver 27th Man and the Tyner Extensions are excellent, but they've been easily obtainable in other Blue Note series. People will also be glad to see that Wayne Shorter CD, though its musical total is less that the sum of its parts, which probably explains why it sat in the can for a few years and was never reissued on CD by Blue Note (they licensed it out to One Way). GA Russell
Aren't some of those Horace Silvers new to CD?
felser
Aren't some of those Horace Silvers new to CD? Yes, I believe all of the Silver 'N titles are. That being said, they are a long way from "Song For My Father", with much dreadful gobbledygook added into the production (as was common for most of the titles recorded in the later UA era). Stefan Wood
I liked the Chico Hamilton.
webbcity
Hutcherson's Cirrus is a winner...and that one has never been on CD, AFAIK.
sidewinder
'Linger Lane' is recommended.
Daniel A
Any word on the Moacir Santos albums?
CJ Shearn
Is the Ronnie Foster title worth it? Looks to be just a trio, some of his studio albums of the period after "Two Headed Freep" got really slick in the not so good way.
The Magnificent Goldberg
Oh, too many Japanese reissues (BN & Atlantic). I like 'Sophisticated Lou' and will welcome a CD. I'll go for the Moacir Santos ones, too. 'Maestro' is a MARVELLOUS album!!! MG
djcavanagh
Hutcherson's Cirrus is a winner...and that one has never been on CD, AFAIK. Cirrus is on the Hutcherson Mosaic Select. I don't believe that Linger Lane has been issued on cd (in a compilation or otherwise).
Kevin Bresnahan
I'm surprised that they didn't add the two Blue Mitchell dates that were excluded from the Mosaic box, "Collision in Black" & "Bantu Village".
Daniel A
Re: Blue Mitchell - I noted that also 'Step Lightly' was excluded from the LT series reissues.
JSngry
Marlena Shaw - Who Is This Bitch Anyway [Japan LTD CD] TOCJ-50512 This one won't be for everybody, but for those for whom it will be, don't miss it.
The Magnificent Goldberg
Yes, I've got a soft spot for Marlena. What about the others? MG
JSngry
Don't know the live one at all. The other one is ok enough, just not anything "special" compared to Who Is.... which kind of hits a zone.

felser
Don't know the live one at all. The other one is ok enough, just not anything "special" compared to Who Is.... which kind of hits a zone. The live one's pretty good (though very short), just a trio behind her. And "Woman of the Ghetto" from it was famously sampled for that acid jazz hit by St. Germain. Edited October 1, 2012 by felser
felser
I'm surprised that they didn't add the two Blue Mitchell dates that were excluded from the Mosaic box, "Collision in Black" & "Bantu Village". They were recorded earlier than this series, they're from the Liberty Era, not the UA era.
