At What Point Do You Stop Being a "Newbie"?

That dryer was nuthin' You would not believe what went wrong yesterday. My wife pages me at work and describes the scene something like this - " A pipe above the hot water tank busted . There's water everywhere. I don't know how to stop it."

Of course I talked her through how to turn off the main water supply. When I headed home, I discovered that the plastic tube that taps into one of my water lines and feeds the humidifier had cracked. I guess it was old age. I got a new water line and it took about 5 minutes to repair. The way she described it, I thought I'd be at it all night.

A significant portion of my recently remodeled basement was flooded as a result. Spent most of the evening with a rented wet vac. Boy did that suck.

Anyways, I figure a plumber would have charged - what - about $50-75 just to walk in the door. and another $20 buck for the part that cost me about $5 and another hour labor (that's the minimum don't you know) at another $75 and hour and I saved myself in the neighborhood of $150.

Maybe I'll grab the Bunny Berigan set this time around.
