My bad, I was thinking of his estate.....which explains why it's the first release since 2004 by Revenant. Have to check but I think the Albert Ayler set was the last release. I could be wrong but I remember reading something about a lawsuit involving Ayler's estate.

P.S. I thought you had me on ignore. ;)

One thing else, because Jack White is involved....a lot of people will be listening to musicians/music they probably would never have before. Who knows where they go from there....

Interesting post on the Hoffman board by someone I respect - he's a Charley Patton specialist:

Lots of controversy in blues circles about this box.

1: the pricetag: $469!!!

2: there are indications the USB will contain mp3s, rather than lossless tracks

3: there are concerns that Third Man/Revenant have sought to avoid licensing these tracks from the owners. They are not public domain.

At $469, this isn't some loss-leader labor of love. Let's hope someone at Third Man or Revenant will address forthrightly the issues in points 2 and 3. I hope they aren't true, but if they are, the potential buyer should be forewarned.

Ah yes, the musical ultimate fetish/people with no lives board....don't bring up Hoffman is a thief, or anything negative about their "God"

I doubt 3 because it's not worth the hassle/money for White. George H. Buck's estate owns the rights to whatever is not in public domain....and a good deal of Paramount Records releases are in Public Domain.

Hey, @ least Buck's estate might make some money.:w

Nowhere is it mentioned it's going to be mp3 but on the the Ultimate fetish remastering/engineer God's site.

Blue Train guessed:

"Nowhere is it mentioned it's going to be mp3 but on the the Ultimate fetish remastering/engineer God's site."

That's simply not true, you don't know what you are talking about. You obviously aren't subscribing to blues boards that have discussed this days before it hit the Hoffman board. Is it your usual M.O. to offer up wildly inaccurate opinions dressed up as "facts"?

Another member from the thief/god's site?

How about this....it doesn't mention anywhere on Third Man Records, Revenant it will be mp3....and why do I get the feeling it's the same fetish worshipers with no lives posting it?

Anyone want to guess where the now $469 can be found, or mp3....here is a hint....fetish/no lives. It's not anywhere on Third Man Records. As in, there literally is no price, or if it's mp3/lossless mentioned right now.

Once again, anyone really think with White involved that they would do anything that would lead to a lawsuit that could be expensive as hell....especially with White involved?

How about this for those with the fetish from the theif/god's site and similar.....post any actual facts and not guesses that's it's $469, mp3 and they're ripping off Buck's estate.

agree about the mp3 thing, which does appear to be guesswork.. also, although several respectable sources have mentioned the price, Third Man don't appear to be advertising it (oddly).. they made a bit of a cock-up with the announcement on this i think. BUT - i don't know why it's so unbelievable that there could be copyright infringements just because Jack White is involved - he has after all been doing a big project with Document Records, whose reputation isn't so great in these matters. Certainly John Tefteller or Richard Nevins have had no involvement in the Paramount box, so the quality in places is likely to be either less good than their own things, or else 'borrowed' from their things. Not a great big deal for me, i'm no audiophile - the real issue for me is how much of the stuff i have already in one form or another. Susan Archie's art direction on it looks superb, the books etc look v good

edit - the official list price, from the label's distributor is indeed as quoted by J.A.W - $469.98.. no reason to doubt this, though some retailers will probably sell it cheaper

- that Tommy Johnson disc leapt $20,000 in the last few seconds. Nuts!

Sure hope the bidder had his commas right! ;)

And Blue Train, you seem like a fetishist, too, always having to chime in with your facts not fiction creed ... it does get tiring. Your facts are very often one man's opinion (namely yours). It's not worth boiling it up all the time, makes the impression your a facts-not-fiction-fetishist with no life (and little grip on how facts and fiction are related or how facts are "made"). Sorry, don't want to get personal, but your on-going lamento is really asking for it.

When I post anything based on facts....they're factually correct. My opinions, are my opinions. They're actually easy to tell the difference, but maybe I should start using IMHO for those that can't figure it out.

For example, thief isn't a opinion. It's a fact. I know several who worked with the thief. The only thing is he wasn't charged like he should have been. They just fired him. My commentary on the whole fetish over remastering/engineers that goes on there/ and here....just like the thief is treated like some sort of God on there....that's an opinion.

1. It would be nice if you provided a link to anything official on the price.

2. Yes, Document has "issues", but the logic about White is....suing him results in a lot more money than Document....and makes White look bad; especially with him out there talking about all the Blues that influenced him.

3. Of course, it's not going to be any of the musician's estate's that make any money if there is an actual lawsuit, but the estate of someone who probably never paid a single penny to the actual musicians, or their estate.

4. Oh my, Tefteler, or Nevins might not be able to make even more money off people they never paid a penny too.

5. Mosaic is about to release something that a quarter of which is ripped from a cds. I, or anyone with a clue could do the same as what Mosaic is doing and it would be free....what they're doing really isn't that difficult. It's really a joke what they're doing....considering what a certain label(s) in Europe are doing with Mosaic box sets.

Sony is releasing the 10,000th version of KOB that those buying it already bought WTF? knows how many times in just my lifetime.....they're calling it mono....when it's a mixed down version of a 3 track stereo tape.

But it's this people are up in arms about....when in the end @ best it's really no different.

I am not the one that has wasted hundreds/thousands buying the same thing over and over....or live @ the alter....just how much of that money could have gone to help an actual living musician, or anyone....instead of feeding the fetish?

I actually enjoy the music.....we're talking about music recorded when?

Hey don't huff and puff so hard about that board, the chip on your shoulder might slip.
