Jim R
Martin Taylor is an excellent guitarist, almost like Art Tatum on guitar. Interesting comment. You may already know this, but his first LP (or one of the first) was called "A Tribute To Art Tatum". I posted here some years ago that Martin's solo playing gets to be somewhat "rote" in terms of style and approach, but yes, he's a monster. The duet recording he did with Louis Stewart is something of a classic in jazz guitar circles.

He never loses the beat, even in the midst of a technically dazzling run, and never forgets about the lower two strings.
Д.Д.
Since starting this thread seven years ago I explored dozens of solo guitar albums (actually checked most of the recommendations from this thread), and decided I'd add one more recommendation - "Wichlinghauser Blues" by Hans Reichel on FMP. It's such an original work: https://destination-out.bandcamp.com/album/wichlinghauser-blues
clifford_thornton
Reichel was a genius. Also a master of typeface! https://www.fontshop.com/families/ff-daxline Didn't see the thread the first time around but concur with the recommendations. The Boni LP I often return to is his first, on Futura, a solo record titled L'Oiseau, L'Arbre, Le Béton.
