I have a sneaking suspicion that these (Prestige) SHM-CDs are going to go out of print faster than the Blue Note counterparts. The "Miles" SHM-CD linked to above has the dreaded "3-7 days" availability marker — if that's actually any indication. It was only released in June of 2013, but some of the Japanese Bethlehem reissues that came out last year are already out of print (the Dick Wetmore, for example).

Not trying to create an artificial panic — just speculating. I haven't picked up any discs from this series. I'll have to purchase the Monk Quintets disc soon.

this title is in print and also still in the stores. i'm neither a customer of nor have i had the need to order from cdjapan, but i do know they often show a title as 'out of stock', 'unavailable', or 'back ordered' when i've had zero problems walking down to disk union or ordering from an independent shop... i see no reason any of the prestige, blue note, or bethlehem titles should go out of print anytime soon.

probably because you're hoping to enhance your enjoyment of either theses titles, the label, or the artist... after all, i think that's what the purpose of the reissues may be - in addition to introducing the music to a new generation of japanese listeners (whom we can't forget are the demograph for these).

Yesterday, I ordered two more Rollins titles, Plus 4 and Tenor Madness, both released in 2013. For Worktime I definitely prefer the SHM to the K2.

I'm not so sure I need SHMs of the Davis titles with Coltrane, however. The box set from a few years ago with 24bit mastering by Joe Tarantino is really nice.

Yes, I'm curious about the sound, I am wanting to enhance the experience of these albums, I do listen to the Blue Note and Prestige Monk sides often and some versions are better than others, but even listening to two different versions can be "enhancing" in its way.

As for other titles, I think I may go for the Melle and Charles dates. These are great sessions.

i want more interesting titles to be added. i'll get 'outward bound' and 'conception'. otherwise, there's not much i don't already have that tempts me. unless anyone has a recommendation for one(s) that really shine.

I've said it a number of times on this board, but I preordered "outward bound" and got it a few months back...it really sounds incredible. So much so I got an old friend, who bought the original lp when it came out in 1961 or so, to buy it himself as it was always his favorite album!

Ether, thanks for the links to HMV, and correcting my assumptions. Sometimes I go by what CD Japan says, and forget to check other sites. (And I've even ordered from HMV before; good service.)

The real odd duck in this series is Sanford Gold's Piano d'Or. I don't think this title was even in the old OJC series. Has anyone here picked this title up? One track is on YouTube if you want to sample the playing.

I agree — I want more interesing titles too! How about Ran Blake's The Blue Potato & Other Outrages (though wasn't it originally on Milestone?). Seems unlikely, but that'd be a nice curveball.

Some Randy Weston would be nice, too.

I've been unlucky in my Prestige Rollins collecting up until now. I started with 20bit remasters produced by ZYX themselves which were inconsistent. They managed to make Vol. 1 & 2 of Dolphy's Five Spot recordings sound very different. Later I purchased some RVGs. Unfortunately there has never been a Joe Tarantino 24bit remastered box like the Davis Quintet and Coltranes (Fearless Leader, etc.). The older box must have already been out of print.

I got a Japanese 2007 DSD remaster of Saxophone Colossus some years ago (on a regular CD) which I like (made from Japanese tapes?). It showed less of the tape damage that was present on the RVG.

Got in two orders from cdjapan today (YAY!) and one had my first batch of the Prestige 7000 series releases.

Spun this one immediately.

Wow. I have to say this sounds excellent. I honestly would be even more excited about the new Blue Note reissues if they were engineered like this. I have four more titles to listen to and I expect them to be very good listening.
