I've listened to all 4 now & I'm fine with them.

BTW, I just received what apparently is a monthly catalogue in the mail from Jazz Messengers. Kinda nice.

you'll keep getting them (regularly) if you buy from them - remind me of the True Blue catalogues of past

The new Jazz Messengers catalogue lists Mohawk and JCO - Communication

Just got the email too - looking forward to that NYA4 set

I got that e-mail too - BUT I can't find the CDs on their website.

E-mailed - waiting for reply.

This is often the case with their new releases listed on the catalogue/brochure - they may not be on their online database for a few days to a week or so

Regardless of the provenance of these releases, it's all essential music so my advice would be to go for them. These four albums are probably the pick of the bunch from the Fontana series and have never (I think) been available on other labels. Some of the others such as the Dollar Brand and Paul Bley are available as re-issues on other labels such as Black Lion. Like Jason says above, they're likely to be copies of the original Japanese re-issue sues so should sound fine. Even the Japanese re-issues are not the highest of fi.

If you already have either the original Japanese re-issues or the decent sounding CD-R copies from DMG then why bother.

i have the Curson on black lion

Just read this thread for the first time and succumbed to the impulse to place an order at jazz messengers for:

NEW YORK CONTEMPORARY FIVE - CONSEQUENCES
TED CURSON - URGE
MARION BROWN - JUBA-LEE
NEW YORK ART QUARTET -MOHAWK

There is a reason I am can never dig myself out of the hole ...
