Hardbopjazz
I wish I knew about this. I would have gone to this. Man, they are getting old. Long live Sonny and Ornette! https://twitter.com/sonnyrollins/status/477851119159619585/photo/1 Edited June 21, 2014 by Hardbopjazz
johnblitweiler
And then Ornette kissed Sonny. Fair do, as Samuel Beckett might say.

JSngry
Yes! http://www.nytimes.com/2014/06/14/arts/music/an-ornette-coleman-tribute-at-celebrate-brooklyn.html?_r=0 Apparently Savion Glover tapped some on "Ramblin'". I would have love to have seen/heard that, seriously. Let's talk about "you can't dance to it", HA!
johnblitweiler
Glover clattered through 3 songs and drowned out Ornette and the others. After the first minute I was hoping for an ice storm.
JSngry
How does a tap dancer drown out a band if not for some cluelessass sound engineering?
AllenLowe
am I the only one who thinks that picture looks like a scene out of the new Harry Potter movie, in which the Wizard (Sonny) annoints the ageing supplicant?
jazzbo
No, you're not the only one. When I first saw this thread title I saw "Sony" instead of "Sonny" and thought Sony had arranged to buy master tapes from Ornette. Just wishful thinking. Hardbopjazz
I've changed the thread title.
