Yes, I noticed this when I was looking on the Cherry Red website for information on the new Annie Ross re-issue "Loguerhythms". They really do take care with their re-issues and this is very good value; four albums for £11.

There's also this two-fer coming out from BGO next month:

... a veritable Burton-fest!

Just a heads up for anyone interested, theres a whole bunch of Warner/Atlantic 1000 Yen type Gary Burton stuff available at the moment on Amazon Japan (and i presume wherever else Japanese CDs are sold).

There's all the Atlantic stuff like Throb etc which you would likely be aware of and expect... i picked up Alone At Last and Paris Encounter (what a gem!)... but there's also RCA stuff like Tennessee Firebird, Lofty Fake Anagram and Duster available.

And on top of that, there's now a GRP 1000 Yen type series, from what i can see of Burton there's currently Cool Nights and Reunion available.

Anyway, i am quietly keen on checking out some of the RCA and GRP stuff. Not expecting a flood of enthusiasm (particularly for the GRP stuff)but thought it was worth posting in case anyone else is interested.

These are available to order but not coming out until October 22.

Ah, i was all excited and didn't look at the release dates. Gives me time to save/convince the wife :)

One of my Burton favorites is A Genuine Tong Funeral.

I like that one too. Always makes me think of Tim Burton films, for some reason; kind of a spooky/cartoonish vibe in places.

By upgrading Burton's RCA albums with Japanese CDs, y'all will bypass the warp and wobble of RCA's Dynaflex pressings -- the thinnest vinyl of the 20th century.

If the Dynagroove process of the mid-1960's wasn't bad enough, RCA's Dynaflex pressings easily surpassed it as the worst patent adopted by a major U.S. record company.

The hardly-deep grooves produced a discernible low 'rumble' during quiet passages on all of Burton's RCA output.

  • 4 weeks later...

Conception arrived today. The two CDs are in two separate cardboard sleeves which are housed, along with a decent quality booklet, in an outer cardboard sleeve. Almost like a weird mini box set. Probably would have preferred a jewel case but it's okay, i like it.

13. RELAXING

HANK GARLAND'S QUINTET: SELECTIONS FROM SUBTLE SWING
14. IT'S LOVE, OF COURSE
15. NOT FOR ME

18. RAINY AFTERNOON

16. LAST DATE

Mine arrived a few days ago too. I've only had time to play it once but it sounds fine, much better than my previously poor rips.

The booklet promises more than it delivers, I'm afraid. Apart from the initial summary page, it consists solely of the liner notes from each of the albums, so no new information there. Still, at least the notes are in a readable typeface, not like the usual "impossible-to-read" ones shown on most CDs.

All in all, an excellent compilation.
