Helps to explain the auction of his artwork a couple of months ago.

Early in Bruce Lundvall: Playing by Ear, an authorized biography by Dan Ouellette, published this year through ArtistShare, theres a retelling of a conversation between a teenage Mr. Lundvall and his father, who was a mechanical engineer.

Bruce told him: When I grow up, I want to be in the record business.

The reply: Son, youll have to choose one or the other.

Good story, and a great quote!

Great article! Lundvall and Was really helped turn BN around from the Butler era disaster. I feel like Was holds much closer to the original philosophy of Alfred Lion and Frank Wolff, although like I said a while back, the Blue Note of today marketing wise seems to be a redux of Blue Note Hits a New Note in a way, except the quality of the music is much better :) tastes notwithstanding.
