clifford_thornton
Reports from those close to the source are that the reedist Will Connell, who worked with William Parker, Jason Hwang and his own groups, passed away today at the age of 76, after an accident in his home last night. He was set to have a residency at the stone next month, which from what I'm told will now be a celebration of his life and a requiem for his sudden departure. Sad news. Some words on Will and the band Commitment, which he co-founded, are here. I'd hoped to interview him for the NYC Jazz Record earlier this fall but whether for his reasons or the paper's, it got scuttled. No time like the present to talk to musicians you want to learn from.
