Lazaro Vega
Last night Jazz From Blue Lake featured drummer Danny Richmond on "The Jazz Retrospective" element of our 5 hour program. Richmond was Charles Mingus's partner in time for over 20 years. We hear their music, as well as Richmond's sideman appearances with Zoot Sims, Herbie Nichols and others, plus Holiday tuneage (dolphin free). That program is available throughout today from our web site: http://199.176.235.218/ondemand/17-1-20141216.mp3

AllenLowe
skinniest guy I ever saw. Apparently had to do with his habits, but he sure could play.

erwbol
Started life as a tenor player, correct? From the Complete Atlantic Recordings book: "Dannie Richmond was originally a saxophonist - he told Francis Boland he could only play the blues on that instrument - and had taken up drums just before being introduced to Mingus by alto saxophonist Lou Donaldson."
