There's a few from the list that look interesting to me,,

Terumasa Hino - Live in Nemuro Vols, 1 & 2
Sadao Watanabe - Pamoja & Recital
Masabumi Kikuchi - East Wind
Tsuyoshi Yamamoto - Daahoud & Life
Isao Suzuki - Hip Dancin'
Sam Jones - Seven Minds
Dollar Brand - African Breeze
Al Haig - Chelsea Bridge
Ronnie Mathews - Trip to the Orient
Oliver Nelson - Stolen Moments
Cedar Walton - Pit Inn
Can anyone comment on the ones by Japanese artists...are there any clunkers?

Though I don't read Japanese, I was able to identify some of the East Wind reissues as I have them on Earlier Japanese CD releases.

These are all things I definitely recommend along with the Cedar Walton at Pit Inn which is great.

Art Farmer Quartet with Cedar, Sam Jones and Billy Higgins - To Duke With Love and also The Summer Knows.

Art Farmer Quintet Live at Boomers Vol. 1 and Vol.2 with Clifford Jordan, Cedar, Sam & Billy H.

Pentagon with Clifford Jordan , Cedar, Sam, Billy

Sam Jones - Seven Minds with Cedar, Billy, and a string quartet on a couple of tracks

There may well be others I was unable to identify.

If you are interested in the Kikuchi album then I would also recommend "out of chaos" by Kosuke Mine which is virtually the same band. I have both the LPs and they're great.

The Sam Jones album is really nice, one of the most listenable jazz LPs with strings I know. Almost forgot I have this ...

I'm curious about the Oliver Nelson - must be one of his last dates before he passed. Anyone heard this?

p.s. That album was his last session ...

although Nelson assembling a sort of "West Coast All Star" ensemble for this date, this recording didn`t leave a memorable impression with me - but probably of worth for Oliver Nelson aficionados....

On vinyl many of these were originally issued 'direct cut' and always sounded particularly great sonically, to my ears. Much better pressings than the US Inner City releases of these titles.

The Art Farmers and the Cedar Waltons can be recommended without reservation. As can the Clifford Jordan/Cedar Walton 'The Pentagon'.

I have that Oliver Nelson on vinyl. Will have to dig it out again.

Regarding the Oliver Nelson side, I've long had an affection for it (it was released here on Inner City back in the day, as many of these things were). For no specific reason, really, other than maybe that Bobby Bryant is heard to lengthy benefit, and Oliver's charts are seriously biting in a way that much of his later L.A. work wasn't, as is the whole gig, really. Everybody came to play, and they were given good things to play, so...win-win. Perhaps best/most effectively heard with an awareness of the times and the career arc in full mind?

Probably not "essential" if you're not an at least really interested-in-the-whole-story Nelson-ite, but I am, so there you go.

google won't translate the page from the link for me. Does anyone have access to a listing of these titles in English?

cd japan is also carrying them -- with a more English-friendly webpage.

The Bastards also seem to be planning to stock them - not surprisingly.

That's really good to know, though it's always dangerous to my wallet to go poking around their website. Anyone familiar with that Hubert Eaves title? What are the Hino titles like? Jim, I also am a fan of that Oliver Nelson date. Can you describe the Reggie Lucas in more detail?

JPC in Germany has them listed - I pre-ordered the Nelson.

Gave the Sam Jones a spin this morning - very nice, as I said. The string quartet is only on half of the tracks and used very tastefully, as a coloration of the arrangements - really a trio album with Jones as the main soloist. I remember that I tried to get a copy of every new Sam Jones release as a leader in the 1970's and never was disappointed. Glad I saw him live with Walton, Higgins, and Bob Berg back then - what a beautiful bass tone!

I second the questions about the Lucas and Eaves albums!
