Hardbopjazz
March 15, 2015 Charles Lloyd will play his first gig at the Vanguard in NY in 50 years. I am very excited to see him in a small venue. I'll be there for both sets. It is the Lloyd's birthday March 15, juxtaposed with the Vanguard's 80th anniversary this will be a one great night of jazz. There is a small chance I could make the late night set Friday (where Moran will be playing (and murdering ) Monk standards. Of course, there are other things I might do. We'll see how I feel when I get here.

ejp626
I was just joking around. I would probably go if I could. I do see there is a competing birthday gig across town (Roy Haynes at the Blue Note). It's tempting but the Friday evening tickets are a bit out of my range. Hardbopjazz
Yeah, Roy Hayes is playing the BN for a few nights, but the BN is charging a lot, $75 a set. Plus the club is crap, the worst in NYC. http://www.bluenote.net/newyork/schedule/moreinfo.cgi?id=12728
issho
I just bought tickets to the 10:30 Charles Lloyd set at the Vanguard. I will also be seeing Tony Malaby's Paloma Recio at the Greenwich House the same night at 7:30, so I'm quite excited about this NYC trip. BFrank
I have tix for Charles 4/25 at SFJAZZ - same quartet. He was opening act for the first jazz concert I ever saw, in the early 70s. The headliner was Freddie Hubbard's quintet.
GA Russell
Early '70s? Was that when Zitro was in the band?
BFrank
I honestly don't remember who was in Charles' band. The date was 11/20/1971, so it could probably be looked up. Freddie had Junior Cook, Geo Cables, Alex Blake and Lenny White
Guy Berger
I was actually thinking of going to the Temple of Dendur concert on April 18.
