clifford_thornton
Trumpeter, composer, painter and educator Bill Dixon was born on this day in 1925 (he passed in 2010). I got to know him fairly well over the course of two separate articles and interviews, the second of which involved staying in Bennington for a week in advance of his Firehouse12 recordings.Certainly a significant influence on my thinking about this music, I owe him a lot and think about him often.Happy Birthday, Bill. Homefromtheforest
I corresponded with Bill a few times via email and found him to be really generous and kind. His paintings were/are wonderful as well..one day I'd love to buy one. "Intents and purposes" was one of the first free jazz albums I bought well over 20 years ago... clifford_thornton
Same here. He gave me a huge artist's proof litho that hangs above my bed. I always go to sleep hoping that it's permeating my brain somehow.

Justin V
I'll have to spin Intents and Purposes this week. I imagine that Papyrus, Vol. 1 was among the first few free albums I bought, having been intrigued by Dixon's playing on Conquistador!.
