Once Upon A Time In Hollywood - Quentin Tarantino (2019)

Image result for once upon a time in hollywood

I liked it but thought it was self indulgent, with an episodic recreation of a nostalgically imagined past given priority over any kind of real story telling.

Too much fragmented detail crammed in just for the sake of it. Top marks for conjuring up an immersive visual treat, low marks for any real substance, although I liked the DiCaprio-Pitt double act.

This one grew on me. Right afterwards, I felt as you did, but as I thought about it, I really admired DiCaprio's work in it. It's one thing to play a "fading" actor--lots of people have done it--but to play that fading actor playing in a film within a film is much tougher. I thought it was some of his best work. And Pitt was fun!

Saw this last night. Very good, in my opinion. Joe Pesce is outstanding.

The one movie that makes Plan 9 From Outer Space look like Citizen Kane --

51WO9UlKTzL.jpg

A truly & deeply horrible movie.  I watched the Rifftrax version of this and have to agree with their assessment of the film's heroes in their battle against the Psychlos:  "It's like the Allman Brothers Band as Special Ops guys".

It holds the record with nine razzie awards, including "worst film of our first 25 years." It's so awful, it gives awful a bad name.

It took me a while to get past the reverse aging technology or whatever they call it, a little freaky, but overall a good movie. Agree 100% with you on Pesci.

Did everyone but me know Pesci was a singer:  https://thebluemoment.com/ ?

I did but that was from an interview I saw years ago. I don't think that many people knew until he did the recording with Adam Levine.

Joey DeFrancesco knew and recorded a CD with him (using the alias "Joe Doggs") years ago:

I actually saw him sing in an obscure 1982 German film Dear Mr. Wonderful ! Not sure just why I saw it...I think I had (1983) just moved to NYC, discovered the Film Forum cinema, and that was playing.
