Lazaro Vega Posted July 15, 2016 Report Share Posted July 15, 2016 She's played everything, starting at NYC's "Fame" high school and the Manhattan School of Music with symphonic and chamber ensembles, to the merry-go-round of talent at the Apollo Theater to Max Roach's Double Quartet, and her own Quartette Indigo. Cellist/arranger/bandleader Akua Dixon Turre is in a tradition which includes Oscar Pettiford, Fred Katz, Ron Carter, Abdul Wadud and the young Tomeka Reid as players who want to use "the language of jazz on the cello."
