Mose Allison R.I.P.

Tom 1960

His website now confirms that Mose Allison passed away today.  Another musical icon gone.

I saw him perform a couple of times.  With all the attention given to his songwriting and singing, people may overlook that he was also a really fine pianist.  His version of "You Are My Sunshine" really brought home to me just how profoundly sad that song is.  (Why do we teach little tykes to sing such a depressing song?)

May he Rest In Peace.

Was

(Mose Allison)

When I become was and we become were
Will there be any sign or a trace of th' lovely contour of your face
And will there be someone around
With essentially my kinda sound

When am turns to was and now is back when
Will someone have moments like this
Moments of unspoken bliss
And will there be heroes and saints
Or just a dark new age of complaints

When I become was and we become were
Will there be any Susans and Ralphs
Lookin' at old photographs
And wondering aloud to a friend

Some of his most poignant lyrics, and he wrote a lot of great ones! RIP

Was a fan minutes after listening to  'Back Country Suite' when it was released back in 1958.

Was lucky to attend à surprise visit to the Paris Blue Note club several  months later. He had a  Rolls Royce car parked outside the club!

Kept up and enjoyed most of his recording since.
