I Wanna Vibrate Like A Cello

It's the overall badassness of the sound, so yeah, that's part of it.

also part of it is that, the way it makes me feel, a cello being bowed hard in the lower ranges creates a sound that is erotically primal, the way the bow rubs the strings and the way the strings give it back and then some, that's just, like, pure sex to me, not porn sex, real sex, unbound intimacy. And the way the upper registers sing out in a way that has no top nor bottom, that is ecstasy as far as I am concerned.

I agree.  I love the low end on the cello, especially how it interacts with the bow as you so beautifully described.  Is it hot in here or is it just me? :D

I'm in.  ALL in.  I've dreamed about owning a cello for decades, I just know that I'm better off sticking with what I already know, which has so much in common with a cello (they also talk about the tenor sax being in that same range with regard to sound production... hmm).

I ran across this not long ago, and was very glad that I did.  Made me vibrate significantly:

One of my regular insecurity dreams is to find myself on stage with a cello, the concert about to start, and then I suddenly realise I don't know how to play (not as regular as standing in front of a class and being completely ignored....though that might have been real life rather than a dream).

A favourite instrument of mine too - I can't resist a cello concerto. If I come across an unfamiliar composer and there's a cello concerto, it won't be long before I'm exploring it.

Lol, I've always loved the cello myself. I wasn't aware that particullar reason could have the been the cause. Oo lala! :D

I have been thinking about duets of just cello and voice recently. I wonder what that means subconciously....

This also includes a piano, but still... I find it to be pretty near perfect:

Thank you for posting, it is lovely! It has been a little fantasy of mine to learn to play the cello and combine that with my singing. I'm not sure I will ever be able to get into that since I'm long an adult and this would be a totally new approach to learn to play music. It would cost a lot of money too, which I don't have, but it is nice to dream, ain't it?! :)

What a beautiful lady she is, in more ways than one. I love her playing! Thank you so much for pointing her out. I'm going to look for her album.
Kind regards, page

?  I'm not sure I understand the point here.

Practice exercise to develop a more controlled, consistent vibrato. Pretty much an exercise in building hand/arm musculature and muscle memory,

That's David Finkel. He was with the Emerson Quartet for a good while and now is with Lincoln Center.

Heard hear do this a year or two ago in a small room, sat no more than 15-20 feet away, it was...intense.

Now, to hear this somewhere live...

Uh, yeah.  I got that.  What was the point of posting it here, though?  To demonstrate the sound of a cello (albeit a good one, being used by a good player) in a hotel room?  And not only was there no music involved, there was pretty much one note being bowed for several minutes.  Pretty oddly specific demonstration, which I'm not sure anyone here can apply to anything, and pretty boring to watch (ymmv).  So I was just wondering... why that video, here?  Certainly on-topic in terms of involving a cello and a cellist, but... ??

Duet: Yo Yo Ma and Bobby McFerrin

Andante - Vivaldi

And then this one:

This makes me smile all over and know why I love this so much, such great musicians! FUN!

Had not seen those for a long time.  Thanks for the reminder, page.

Last month here was this duo playing at a classical tv program here, I would have loved to have seen live. They were attending a cello festival in Amsterdam. Unfortunately I couldn't go.

It is a bit folk orientated, I like that. While looking for the link I did find some links to the cello festival. If you don't mind some Dutch commentators you can take a look and get an impression:

The cello group appearing at the beginning is called Cello8tet who did the opening of the festival. They were mixing theatre with playing with a performance called "Instant Happiness". They were trying to express the consumer society and the cause of that and the thing with the clothes had to do with incidents in the clothing industry like the one in Bangladesh.
Also parts of the cello used in films.
You can see more through the website of the festival itself. I've just discovered it myself so do not know which performance link is best. It took place at the Bimhuis and the Muziekgebouw aan 't IJ. Anyway, enjoy!
