Steeplechase recommendations?

I haven't been a member of eMusic for many years now, but notice that they now have a substantial portion of the Steeplechase catalog for download at reasonable prices.  Which titles are favorites of board members here?  Stanley Cowell, Walt Dickerson, Frank Foster...a lot of interesting looking albums: http://www.emusic.com/browse/album/jazz/label:1320687/page/1/

Many good records on that label. A few favorites of mine:

Walt Dickerson: Peace

Dexter: I Want More

Kenny Drew: Everything I Love

Archie Shepp/NHOP: Looking at Bird

Chet Baker: The Touch of Your Lips

Boulou & Elios Ferré: Pour Django

Jimmy and Doug Raney: Stolen Moments

Archie Shepp/Horace Parlan: Goin' Home

Chet Baker/Duke Jordan: No Problem

I could name many more, but that's a start.

FWIW I purchased a huge amount of Steeplechase discs recently and some are going to be offered here soon. So anyone who prefers physical discs, stay tuned.

In keeping with the purpose of the thread, off the top of my head I'd include every Dexter release and Blue Parlan.

There's so many great albums on Steeplechase!

Some of my absolute favourites:

Johnny Dyani - Song for Biko, Witchdoctor's Son, Angolian Cry

Shirley Horn - Lazy Afternoon (this album is a complete masterpiece, easily Horn's greatest work and v under recognised)

Lee Konitz & Paul Bley - Out of Nowhere (lots more great Konitz and Bley seperately too)

Also loads of great Dexter Gordon, Walt Dickerson, Buck Hill, Kahn Jamal, Rich Perry...  I need to get more of the Walt Dickersons, some great looking lineups

I count around 421 SteepleChase CDs in my collection, which doesn't include the LPs. All of Joe Locke's sessions are great,

as are those by Lee Konitz, Andy LaVerne, Richie Beirach, Bent Axen George Cables, etc. The label has a high standard.

Listening to Gregory Tardy's new SteepleChase CD Chasing After the Wind as I found this discussion.

So you`re not missing too manny :D .... but again, a very interesting label which (still) would deserve wider recognition (aka outside Europe) ....

Ken, you are far ahead of me. Your post took me to the shelf to determine how many Steeplechase Cd's are in my collection. My total is roughly 300. I had  more, but disposed of those I did not care for all that much. I have the ones (already released) that I want. Of course as new Steeplechase CDs are issued, there may be some I want to add to my collection.

Listening right now to:

• Walter Davis: Scorpio Rising (highly recommended!) — Santi Debriano on bass adds a lot to this session.

Also recommend:

• Sadik Hakim: Witches, Goblins, etc.
• Paul Bley: Questions
• Chris Byars Octet: Lucky Strikes Again (an excellent homage to Thompson)
